MINUTES
FUND FOR LEXINGTON BOARD
June 21, 2011
4:30 p.m., Selectmen's Office
Present: Norman Cohen, Dan Lucas, Alan Wrigley, Alan Fields, Charlotte Rogers, Director
Human Services Department, Emily Lavine, Assistant Director for Family Services, Human
Services Department.
1. Approximate amount of money available as of 5/31/11: Income $45,541.88
Principal $86,098.15
2. Human Services:
a. Emily Lavine gave the Human Services Report. Between March 16, 2011 and June
21, 2011, the Human Services Emergency Checking Account was reduced by
$1,535.47 for various emergency rent, fuel and ambulance requests. The Board
discussed one troubling case where a tenant in an affordable unit at Avalon Bay was
sent an eviction notice after being one day late in renewing her lease. The tenant
always paid her rent on time. Avalon Bay charged her $800 for legal expenses
incurred in filing the eviction notice. The Board will look into sending a letter
expressing their concern about the process followed in this case.
b. Charlotte Rogers reported on the proposed Emergency Fund Brochure which would
be similar to the one available in the Town of Lincoln. Charlotte will bring the
Human Services Committee up to date on this project. The Fund for Lexington will
pay for printing the brochure when it has been drafted by the Human Services
Department staff and reviewed by the Fund for Lexington Board. The brochure will
reference the Human Services Fund which is currently held by the Trustees of Public
Trusts.
c. Poll vote ratified 4 -0: $630 for June rent
d.
