<br />Minutes – Lexington Conservation Commission Land Management Subcommittee January 28, <br />2011 <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioners present: Duke Bitsko, Phil Hamilton <br /> <br />Others present: Karen Mullins, Conservation Administrator; Emily Schadler, Conservation <br />Assistant <br /> <br />Phil Hamilton opened the meeting at 8:25 am in Room G-15, Town Offices Building. <br /> <br />The Commissioners and staff discussed recommendations to be made to the Commission at the <br />February 15, 2011 meeting. Topics discussed included: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Requiring and defining voice and sight control. Possible clarifiers to include in the <br />definition include: that the dog be in sight of the walker, that the dog comes immediately <br />and stays, that the dog not charge or chase people, dogs, or wildlife, and that the dog not <br />display aggression toward people, dogs, or wildlife. <br /> <br /> <br />Phasing in a permit system in the future to assist with education and enforcement, <br />including elements of the Boulder, CO permit system such as an educational video on <br />voice and site control. <br /> <br /> <br />Instituting a trailhead leash rule that establishes an on-leash zone from the entrance of <br />Willard’s Woods to a certain marked location within the conservation area. <br /> <br /> <br />Allowing dogs to be walked off leash (under voice and sight control) on one morning per <br />weekend in the earlier hours (hours and day to be determined). <br /> <br /> <br />Changing the current limit of 3 dogs per person to 2 dogs per person. <br /> <br /> <br />Requiring that dog walkers have a leash with them at all times. <br /> <br /> <br />Requiring the immediate removal of dog excrement. <br /> <br />The Commissioners and staff also discussed signage needs, funding, and the possibility of a <br />ranger position to aid with education and enforcement. <br /> <br />9:30 am Meeting Adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted by, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Emily Schadler <br />Conservation Assistant <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />
