APPROVED MEETING MINUTES Committee Name: Lexington Bicycle Advisory Committee Date, Time and Location of Meeting: June 9, 2011, 7 pm, Room 111 of the Town Office Building Members Present: Peggy Enders (Chair) George Gagliardi, Stew Kennedy, Jerry Van Hook, John Frey, Richard Canale (Planning Board Liaison) Others Present: Richard Spencer, Margaret Stebbins Members Absent: Laurel Carpenter, Bob Hausslein (FoLB Chair), Marita Hartshorn, Mike Tabaczynski, Peter Kelley (Selectmen’s Liaison), Sandra Shaw (Recreation Committee Liaison) Minutes : The May 2011 minutes were accepted. Selectmen Annual Goal Setting: The committee has been formally solicited for its input for the Selectmen’s annual goal setting session. Members agreed to recommend to the Selectmen that a) the Town should strive to become a more bike-friendly town; 2) that doing so would advance bike-related tourism and economic development; and 3) that the Town should invest more resources in improving bicycle transportation facilities generally, both in terms of shared-used paths and “complete streets.” A document outlining these recommendations will be forwarded to the Selectmen in time for their June 28 meeting. Plans for Bikeway Drainage and Root Control (Update) Peggy shared a memo from John Livsey describing delays on the CPA Bikeway project associated with the discussions at the Conservation Commission. Stew talked about some of the issues associated with the delay. The committee directed Peggy to contact John Livsey to express its hope that the work was completed by winter. Bikeway Intersection Safety Upgrades (Update) The committee asked again about the proposed new bollards and how the bollards will join at the ground level. Peggy agreed to write the DPW again and ask about the bollards and whether they can be removed during plowing and to send the committee pictures of the same bollards on the Bruce Freeman Trail.
