2009 Minuteman Cane Award Committee Meeting
Tuesday, April 7, 2009
11:00 AM in Town Hall, Room 111

All Committee Members Were Present- Dot Boggia, Chairman, Charlie Price, Marie
Hill, Lodia Parilla, Sheldon Spector, Dick Michelson, David Williams, Barbara Ciampa,
Arthur Katz and Beverly Kelley.

The meeting was called to order at 11:02. The minutes of the February 17, 2009 meeting
were amended by adding the word “Award” after the words Post Cane and after the
words Minuteman Cane. The minutes were then accepted as amended.

Dot informed us that Peter Meek said “yes” to being on the committee so if he returns his
papers he will be a permanent member.

The reception for this year’s recipient will be on Sunday, April 26, from 2-4 PM at the
Depot. This year the reception will be held to jointly honor the 2009 recipients of the
Minuteman Cane, the White Tricorn Hat and the Outstanding Youth of Lexington. It will
be a combined effort by this committee as well as the Lexington Lions Club. All
committee members were asked to bring a dessert to the reception. The Friends of the
Council on Aging will help with the expenses.

We next discussed this year’s nominees. The candidates from last year, Dan Fenn and
Jackie Ward, were discussed along with new nominees John Chiesa, John Edwards and
MaryLou Touart. We discussed each candidate in turn and then a secret written vote was
taken. Sheldon and Marie tallied the votes and it was a tie between Bob Edwards and
Jackie Ward. A second written secret vote was taken and Jackie Ward received the most
votes. Dot and Marie will tell Jackie she is the 2009 recipient of the Cane. The tie means
that there are 3 runners-up so next year Bob Edwards, Dan Fenn and MaryLou Touart
will be automatically considered.

I don’t know what time we adjourned but it was probably around noon.

Respectfully Submitted by Beverly Kelley, Secretary
April 10, 2009
