Wednesday, June 18, 2008 Board of Registrar Meeting of June 18, 2008 – 3:00 p.m. – Town Office Building – Room 111 Minutes The meeting of the Board of Registrars was called to order at 3:00 p.m. Present: Luanna Devenis [R], Chairman; Gerald L. Abegg [D]; Sarah L. Warren [D]; Donna Hooper [U], Clerk The Board voted unanimously to approve the meeting minutes of June 18, 2007.  Election officer appointment process and recommendations for appointment were discussed. The  Board reviewed the listing of election officers and nominations by the Democratic and Republican Town Committees, and voted unanimously to recommend the list to the Board of Selectmen.  Assistant Registrars – The Board voted unanimously to appoint Dianne Snell, Carmelina Fiore, Lisa Maguire and Nasrin Rohani of the Town Clerk’s Office as Assistant Registrars in accordance with MGL c. 51 §22.  The Board discussed voting procedures used and the integrity of the system used in Massachusetts, including paper ballot backup.  Town Clerk Donna Hooper reviewed current process underway for notifying voters being placed on ‘inactive’ list due to 2008 census non-response.  Town Clerk Donna Hooper updated the Board on current initiatives in the Town Clerk’s Office to invite 18-22 year olds to become registered voters.  The Board discussed opportunities for promoting voter registration at the Lexington High School and Minuteman Regional Vocational High, including communicating with social studies departments at the schools for inclusion with curriculum. The Town Clerk will reach out to both schools and provide information to social studies programs.  Town Clerk Donna Hooper reviewed current initiatives for Election Day Registration (same-day voter registration) and likelihood, or not, of implementation for November 2008 election.  Board of Registrars – Chairmanship: Registrar Gerald Abegg [D] nominated Registrar Luanna E. Devenis [R] for another term as Chairman of the Board of Registrars for the upcoming year. Sarah Warren [D] supported the nomination and Ms. Devenis accepted. Vote Unanimously Adopted.  Town Clerk Donna Hooper reviewed dates for upcoming elections – September 16, 2008 State Primary and November 4, 2008 Presidential Election, with respective voter registration deadlines of August 27, 2007 and October 15, 2008.
