V ",
LINCOLN PARK COMMITTEE
Minutes for April 25, 2011
Present: David Williams, Chair, Lynne Wilson, Nell Walker, Brian Kelley, and Kris Burton.
Also present: Wendy Rudner from Recreation, Wes Wirth from Thomas Wirth Associates, Margaret
Heitz, and Connor Zanin.
The first business, at 7:40, was a discussion of the damage caused by the lack of water and resulting
winterkill to the new plantings in the mounds area and all around the Park. We especially need water
closer to the azalea mounds and Wes will call Lawhorn to discuss the feasibility of this. He will also
work with Lussier to deal with the erosion of the path near the rain garden.
Weston Nurseries has offered to sell us azaleas and rhododendrons at a greatly discounted rate for
both the plants and the installation. The committee voted to accept the offer. All in favor.
Eagle Scout Connor Zanin outlined his plan to earn his badge, the work to be done in late May by a
team of Scouts under his direction:
1) spread wood chips on pathways.
2) collect stones for a dry river bed.
3) plant plugs of wildflowers
4) cut up fallen wood and stack it. Use large logs to edge the paths.
Regarding the bathrooms, Brian reports little progress in getting the funding, but he is still working
on it.
Nell reports that Josh is back at work this summer, and Liz Heitz will also be back. April 30 is Garlic
Mustard day. A town truck tore up the cart path and broke the bike path, dislodging the first fitness
station at the time of the installation of 4 large pipes.
Minutes for the August 25, 2010, meeting were approved as written.
The next meeting will be scheduled for May 11 at 7:30.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00.
Respectfully submitted,
Kristine Burton
