2011 Minuteman Cane Award Committee Meeting
Monday, April 11, 2011
1PM in Town Hall, Room 111

The meeting was called to order at 1:02 with everyone present. Dot Boggia, Chairman,
Sheldon Spector, David Williams, Lodia Parilla, Marie Hill, Dick Michelson, Charlie
Price, Jackie Ward, Leo McSweeney, Bob Edwards and Beverly Kelley. The minutes
from the 2010 meeting were read and accepted.

The first order of business was the engraving of the cane. It was decided that Burlington
Trophy will do it this year and the words Lexington, Mass. will be added to it.

The reception will be held this year on Sunday, May 1 at The Depot from 2 to 4. The
Lions Club will help organize it. It is a joint reception for the recipients of the Cane, the
White Tricorn Hat and the Outstanding Youth of Lexington Award. Each of us has been
asked to bring something baked. Dot will send out invitations to all past recipients, town
officials, the two newspapers and Lexington Patch.

We voted to go in to Executive Session. Charlie Price, who was nominated this year,
withdrew his nomination. The committee accepted his withdrawal with regret but it was
decided that we would include it for next year’s consideration.

The nominees for this year were Dan Fenn, Parker Hirtle, Aurio Pierro, Eleanor Smith,
Elsa Sullivan and Mary Lou Touart. We had an open discussion about each candidate
and then we voted by secret written ballot. Lodia and Sheldon left the room to count the
ballots. This year’s recipient is Dan Fenn. Aurio Pierro was second and Eleanor Smith
was third. David will contact Dan’s daughter-in-law to tell her so she can arrange for
family members to be there. It will be kept secret from Dan until Patriot’s Day morning.

We voted to move out of Executive Session and the meeting was adjourned at 1:55.

Respectfully Submitted,

Beverly Kelley, Secretary
April 11, 2011
