Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />June 12, 2009 <br />Present: Gerald McLeod, Joseph O'Leary, Hank Manz, Bob Kent, Linda Vine, Fuang- <br />Ying Huang, Albert Zabin, Melissa Buttaro, Emily Lavine, and Deborah Jackson <br />Meeting at RmI l — Town Hall was called to order at 8:OOAM <br />The discussion focused on the following programs: <br />Town wide programs that are not exclusive for kids. Such as black history exhibit <br />and Lexington Read at the library, theme movies at Lexington Flick, and film <br />series to show Lexington's progress on diversity and human rights such as <br />moving from restricted housing to open housing and the 1972 town election that <br />changed Lexington from being conservative to liberal. Programs that reinforce <br />the value of Lexington, and to bring in broader base of town residents (silent <br />majority). <br />• A series of films that show the 50 years of change on national, town of Lexington <br />and individual level. There is a 45 min film on Carry Hall, and local merchants <br />such as Michelson's may have stories and period pictures to share. <br />• Record oral history on change in Lexington on diversity and human rights. <br />We will recruit local talents and enlist Leximedia and LHS TV Production team for the <br />projects. Committee <br />members are to contact various groups for resource and data: <br />Linda - <br />Library / Lexington Reads Program, Lexington Historical Society <br />Bob - <br />Cary Lecture Series, Fair Housing <br />Melissa - <br />Rick Kollen (Social Study teacher at LHS), METCO <br />Joe - <br />Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club, Rotary Club <br />Deborah- <br />National Heritage Museum <br />Emily - <br />Department of Human Services / oral histories <br />Fuang - <br />CAAL <br />Richard <br />— Interfaith Clergy Association <br />Joe updated the Muzzy Street hate crime case. The commonwealth is appealing the case. <br />The next committee meeting is scheduled on July 31, 2009 at 8:00 AM. <br />The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:50 am. <br />
