k� <br />O w <br />APNIL I9'" <br />Lexington Human Rights Committee Minutes <br />August 19, 2010 <br />8:00 a.m. <br />Room 207— Town Hall Office Building <br />Members in Attendance: Melissa Buttaro, Al Zabin, Bob Kent, Joe O'Leary, Deb Jackson, <br />Puran Dang, Linda Vine <br />Special Guest: Michael McLean, Lexington Police Department <br />The chair called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. <br />Bob Kent reported on his follow -up work with Senator Kerry's office. He left the message <br />that he hoped very much that the Senator could attend, but if not a brief statement that we <br />can use at the meeting would be appreciated. <br />Al Zabin had invited Elise Lemire to participate but she is away until the end of August. <br />Al will follow -up on his invitation. <br />Captain O'Leary introduced Lt. Michael McLean as the newly appointed Civil Rights <br />Officer for the Police Department. Joe discussion the change in personnel and that he has <br />assumed new duties and would probably be coming off the HRC after the fall workshop. <br />Joe also discussed the desire of the department to recruit an Asian speaking officer but to <br />date this has been difficult. <br />Deb Jackson reported on her work arranging the panelist for the November 21 program, <br />with the following persons under consideration by the full committee: <br />• Masha Traber — possible facilitator <br />• Former Police Chief James Corr <br />• Former Selectmen Bob Cataldo <br />• Captain O'Leary <br />• Arthur Katz <br />• Elise Lemire <br />Linda Vine will work with Hank Manz on P.R. opportunities. <br />Melissa Buttaro will work with the history department and music departments to consider <br />ways they could participate. She also offered photos for display that might work well for <br />P.R. purposes; she will coordinate with Linda Vine. <br />
