<br />Minutes <br /> <br /> <br />Town Celebrations Committee <br />October 14, 2010 <br />Ellen Stone Room, Cary Hall <br /> <br />Members present <br /> <br />Suzie Barry, Chair; Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Mary Gillespie, Joanne Granger, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, <br />and Bob Tracey <br />Members not present <br /> <br />Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Sandy Podgorski, Charlie Price, John Rossi, Jim Shaw, and Dave Taylor <br /> <br /> <br />Business <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Suzie Barry at 7:35 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Minutes of May 26, 2010 and September 16, 2010 were approved <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The results of committee election for 2011 are as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />Chair, Suzie Barry; Vice Chair, Bob Tracey; Secretary, Sandy Podgorski <br />o <br />Veteran’s Day Recap <br /> <br />Our Grand Marshal will be Steve Newell, U.S. Navy veteran and retired Lexington police officer. Suzie is <br /> <br />awaiting confirmation. <br /> <br />Mary Gillespie has distributed essay contest information to all Lexington middle and high schools with a <br /> <br />deadline of November 1. Elementary school students will provide handmade cards to veterans. The <br />Lexington Minuteman and Colonial Times will run stories about the essay contest. <br /> <br />Linda Dixon will confirm Rabbi Carey Brown’s (Temple Isaiah) attendance to offer the invocation and <br /> <br />benediction. Sandy Podgorski has arranged a donation of four dozen carnations from Wilson Farms. <br />Patriot’s Day Pre-Planning <br /> <br />Linda Dixon will write to the Interfaith Council to recruit volunteer clergy for next year. <br /> <br /> <br />Suzie invited suggestions for Chief Marshal for the afternoon parade. <br /> <br /> <br />The group felt there was no need to develop a particular theme for the parade. <br /> <br /> <br />There is a definite need to increase outreach. Advertising will be expanded, and certain groups will be <br /> <br />specifically invited to create a float and to participate in the parade. If there is a good response, the <br />committee will hold a special meeting in January to determine which floats will be selected. <br />th <br />300 Anniversary Celebration <br />th <br /> <br />A 300 Anniversary Committee has been established with a website, email address, and P.O. Box. The <br /> <br />committee is developing a series of events that will occur between September 2012 and September 2013, <br />including a logo contest, a time capsule, and Lexington Symphony and Pops Chorus concert with a special <br />th <br />piece commissioned for the occasion.
