60-278 <br />Selectmen's Meeting <br />April 1, 1996 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on Monday, April 1, 1996 in the <br />Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town office Building at 7:30 p.m. Chairman McSweeney, Mr. <br />Busy, Mr. Fenn,1VI - s:. Eddison; Mr. Cohen, Town Counsel; Mr. white, Town Manager; and Ms. <br />Smith, Executive Clerk, were present. <br />Open_ Discussion <br />Mr. McSweeney recognized Cornelius Cronin who was wearing his white Tricon Hat. Mr. <br />Cronin presented Executive Clerk Phyllis Smith with an historic gavel he made from a branch of a <br />Battle Green elm tree which had fallen during a storm in 1977. <br />Mr. McSweeney read a letter from Secretary of Environmental Affairs Trudy Coxe to the Town <br />congratulating Lexington on receiving a grade A on the 1996 Municipal Recycling Report Card <br />for recycling 37% of its solid waste. Mr. McSweeney also presented a plaque to Lexington's <br />Manager of operations Joe. R. Medlin who has been designated as Lexington's outstanding <br />Recycler. <br />Gasoline Storage License - Ravtheon Com an 131 Spring Street <br />Mr. McSweeney opened a hearing on the application of Raytheon Company for a license to store <br />3 00 gallons of hydrogen gas at its location on 131 Spring Street. <br />Raytheon representatives Paul Zybert, Corporate Safety Manager; John Araujo, Construction - <br />Civil Engineer and Jude Bulman, Engineering Project Manager and Praxair representatives David <br />Loomis, Senior Account Manager and Norman Slingerlind, Manager of Customer Installation <br />were present to describe the installation, proposed plans to pipe in the hydrogen gas from an <br />outside. tank.and answer questions of the board and audience. <br />Mrs. Eddison expressed concern over any plans to expand operations. Raytheon does not believe <br />this will encourage future expansion. <br />There was much concern expressed over safety issues. Caleb warner, representing the South <br />Lexington Civic Association expressed his concerns about the volatility of hydrogen gas stored in <br />a gaseous form. other residents who expressed concerns were Mrs. Lava, Bill Tack, Joanne Frey <br />and Michael Malinowski. <br />{ E <br />F <br />
