(00—/ <br />SELECTMEN'S MEETING <br />January 3, 1994 <br />A. regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on <br />Monday, January 3, 1994, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town <br />Office Building, at 7:30 p.m. Chairman Dailey, Mr. McSweeney, Mr. <br />Busa, Mr. Fenn, Mrs. Eddison; Mr. Cohen, Town Counsel; Mr white, <br />Town Manager; Mrs. Novak, Assistant Town Manager; and Mrs. Peters, <br />Executive Clerk, were present. <br />HA.RRINGTON ROAD TRAFFIC MODIFICATION <br />Mr. Dailey invited Traffic Safety Advisory Committee Chairman <br />Peter Chalpin to explain the need for a mod.lf i.cation. , of the Option <br />2 Traffic configuration, previously approved by the Board to go <br />into effect January 1, 1994, once the barricade at the intersection <br />of Bedford Street and Harrington Road 'is removed. <br />Mr. Chalpin reported that because of access problems to the <br />Fortmann property at a Harrington Road, it was recommended that the <br />one-way portion of Harrington Road be reduced from 400' to 300' to <br />allow reasonable access to the Fortmann property. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to add to <br />Article VII, SECTION 1, SCHEDULE #5 that Harrington Road will be <br />one -way from Bedford street, 300 feet westerly. It was noted that <br />this modification will be in effect until the end of March 1994. <br />1994 ANNUAL TOWN MEETING -- SET DATE FOR FIRST BUSINESS SESSION <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to set the <br />date of the f irst business session of the 1994 Annual Town. Meeting <br />for March 21, 19944 <br />STATE DESIGN OF 3 BRIDGES OVER THE EDDISON BIKEWAY <br />Mr. Dailey called upon. Minuteman Bikeway Committee Sel.ectma.n. <br />Liaison Elizabeth Eddison to report on the status of the State <br />design of the proposed replacement of three bridges over the <br />Bikeway. Mrs. Eddison reported that the Bikeway and the Design <br />Advisory Committees have both written very strong letters to the <br />Mass. Highway Department, as have other groups protesting the <br />bridge design. <br />The Board discussed a letter from Mark Primack, Deputy Secre- <br />tary of the Mass. Executive Office of Transportation and Construc- <br />tion, dated December 24, 1993, in which Mr. Pri'mack said that Chief <br />Engineer Dindio will review the original culvert design with the <br />goal of modifying the design; to make the bridges more compatible <br />with the bikeway. He also told Mrs. Eddison that culvert construc- <br />tion has been withdrawn from the immediate construction calendar <br />and that they hope to have a new design in the spring. <br />The Board asked, and Mrs Eddison agreed, to prepare a letter <br />proposing that the - Board of Selectmen in Lexington and Arlington <br />each designate a representative to work with MassHighway engineers <br />as the original culvert design is reviewed. <br />
