prizes are given in each of the categories. (This section of the parade is both sponsored
and judged by the Chamber of Commerce.) The Town Celebrations Committee
welcomes float inclusion in the afternoon parade, since their presence contributes to
and enhances the celebration. Members have spent time talking about how the
committee can help participants with the process. Calls were made to local companies
asking if they had a vehicle (flatbeds and possibly pickups) and driver available for use.
Suzie is preparing a resource list to assist participants. There was discussion about floats
from past parades, including questions about decoration costs, etc. Jim Shaw will look
for float pictures from past parades that could be viewed for inspiration.


Float guidelines were distributed. It was emphasized that materials should be

nonflammable (no crepe paper, etc). There is no cost for participating. Asking for
donations of materials, such as lumber and mulch, can help keep costs down. It was
reiterated that nothing can be tossed from the floats. However, should walkers want to
hand something to the viewers, permission must be given ahead of time. Suzie pointed
out Guideline #5 is very important.


There is no parade theme but entries should be of a patriotic nature.

st

March 1is the float entry deadline. It’s a busy time of year for the folks lending vehicles

so entrants will have only the weekend to assemble their floats. Participants should plan
their preparations carefully.


Suzie announced that the parade will end at the far end of the town pool parking lot this

year and not at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Worthen Road as has
been the case in the past.


The Seabees talked about and shared pictures of their USS Constitution float and would

like to enter it.


The issue of liability was mentioned.

The meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.

Submitted by Sandy Podgorski
