Minutes of the Lexington Zoning Board of Appeals Selectmen's Meeting Room, Lexington Town Hall November 12, 2009 Board Members Present: Chairman Nyles N. Barnert, John J. McWeeney, Arthur C. Smith, Martha C. Wood and Associate Member Leo P. McSweeney Staff Present: Dianne L. Cornaro, Administrative Clerk and David L. George, Zoning Administrator Petition Address: 1987 Massachusetts Avenue, Map 57, Lot 9B Prior to the hearing, the petition and supporting data were reviewed by the Building Commissioner, Conservation Administrator, Town Engineer, Health Director, Board of Selectmen, the Zoning Administrator, the Planning Administrator and Historic Districts Commission Clerk. Comments were received from the Planning Department, The Historic District Commission Clerk and the Zoning Administrator. The Chairman opened the hearing at 7:30 pm by reading the legal notice and described information received from the petitioner relative to the petition. A letter of support was received from 1998 Massachusetts Avenue. Bernie Lanquist, representing St. Bridget's Church, presented the petition. The applicant is requesting a special permit in accordance with section 135 -78 to replace the existing sign, add a second sign (new), and install a temporary sign as shown on plans submitted with the application. The applicant indicated the two permanent signs would mark the location of the two primary buildings. The temporary sign would alert the community to events that occur approximately 9 times a year. There were no questions from the Board. There were no questions from the audience. No one spoke in favor or in opposition to the petition. The hearing closed at 7:34 pm. Decision On a motion by Martha C. Wood and seconded by Leo P. McSweeney, the Board voted 5 -0, to grant a special permit under section 135 -78D in accordance with section 135 -11B to allow three signs: a new standing sign to replace the existing sign, a new standing sign, and a temporary sign, per the plans submitted, at 1977 -1987 Massachusetts Avenue.
