Minutes
Town of Lexington Appropriation Committee
April 14, 2008

Place and time: Cary Hall, Legion Room 6:30 PM

Members present: Deborah Brown (Vice Chair), Richard Eurich, Mike Kennealy, Susan
McLeish, Eric Michelson, John Bartenstein, Rob Addelson (ex-officio)

Also present: Jim Wood

The meeting was called to order at 6:38 PM.

Sidewalks.
1.The Committee discussed funding for Phase 3 of the sidewalk
project, the warrant article to be voted upon at Town Meeting this evening.
Concern was expressed regarding the expense of the entire sidewalk project
for Phase 1 (completed last fall) and Phase 2 (approved at Town Meeting last
spring and scheduled to commence in the summer of 2008). At the time of the
earlier votes, it was believed that there would be an opportunity to review the
project after the completion of Phase 1, and it was the sense of the Committee
that that review process is not yet complete. We do not yet understand the
Disability Commission’s opinion regarding Phase 3 and are not prepared to go
forward without their support. We would also like to see more data in terms
of the maintenance cost. As Phase 2 has not yet commenced, the Committee
will recommend to Town Meeting that an evaluation, including an updated
report from the disability commission and review of another winter of
maintenance costs be done after Phase 2 is complete and that the proposed
expenditure for Phase 3 be reconsidered at that time. It was noted that the
Capital Expenditures Committee did not approve the Article for funding Phase
3. The committee voted 7-1 to recommend that the Article be disapproved
this year.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Susan McLeish

Approved October 22, 2008

- 1 -
