(Adjourned Session of the 1980 Annual Town Meeting - April 2, 1980.) <br /> Article 32. Introduced by David Reiner, Mrs. Selma P. Baron, a resident of <br /> (Cont.) Gould Road and a multiple sclerosis patient, told the meeting that <br /> Lex -Press had opened up a new life for her and that she was no <br /> longer confined to her home. 8:38 P.M. <br /> Mr. Robert's motion to amend Article 32 was declared lost by voice <br /> vote. 8:42 P.M. <br /> Donald B. White, Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, moved <br /> to delete the sum of $180,000. and substitute therefor the sum of <br /> $132,380. 8:43 P.M. <br /> Mr. White explained that Lex -Press should operate on a limited <br /> basis from September to June. He stated that his committee had <br /> intended to support the original figure of $100,000. that was in <br /> the motion for a full twelve month period. He added that the <br /> figure of $180,000. for the nine month period would be $240,000. <br /> for the full twelve months. He asked the question "Does it <br /> (Lex- Press) serve a town need or a town convenience ?" <br /> 8:50 P.M. <br /> Mr. Rosenberg said that if the appropriation was reduced, that <br /> one way of living within the budget would be reduced services <br /> between 9 A.M. and 12 Noon although the highest use by the elderly <br /> is between 9 A.M. and 2 P.M. 8:53 P.M. <br /> Mr. Crain explained that the difference in the tax rate, between <br /> the $180,000. or $132,380. appropriation, would be 674 or 494 and <br /> he felt that there is a real need for this service. 8:55 P.M. <br /> Mrs. Simmons of William Roger Greeley Village spoke, from the <br /> balcony, for the elderly. She said that the elderly use this <br /> service for the most part in the morning as the buses are usually <br /> crowded with students in the afternoon. 8:57 P.M. <br /> Selectman Alfred S. Busa urged support of the amendment as offered <br /> by Mr. White. 8:58 P.M. <br /> Edith Sandy requested a roll call on the vote on the amendment and <br /> the Moderator asked for a standing vote for those in favor of the <br /> roll call, with results as follows: <br /> Precinct In Favor Tellers <br /> 1 7 Cornelia C. Taylor <br /> 8 2 Charles E. Connolly <br /> 9 8 Deborah B. Green <br /> At large 3 William J. Dailey, Jr. <br /> Total 61 <br /> More than the required fifty members having voted in favor, the <br /> Moderator declared that a roll call vote would be taken on the <br /> amendment as offered by Donald B. White. <br /> The roll call vote on the motion to amend Article 32, as offered by <br /> Donald B. White, was taken by the Town Clerk, Mary R. McDonough, <br /> starting at 9:04 P.M. and completed at 9:15 P.M.
