(Adjourned Session of the 1980 Annual Town Meeting - March 26, 1980.) <br /> Article 43. Marthur H. Kalil questioned about accreditation if this remodelling <br /> (Cont.) was not authorized and Mr. Michelman answered that accreditation was <br /> not in any immediate danger. 8:32 P.M. <br /> In response to a question by Robert I. Rotberg, Mr. Michelman said <br /> that the work would be performed and finished during the summer and <br /> therefore should not interfere with the students and teachers during <br /> the school year. <br /> After general discussion, the motion, as offered by Mr. Michelman, <br /> was declared carried unanimously. 8:54 P.M. <br /> Article 44. Presented by Patricia A. Swanson. <br /> MOTION: That the sum of $331,760.00 be appropriated for installing <br /> energy saving equipment in the school buildings of the Town, and <br /> that such amount be raised in the tax levy. <br /> 8:55 P.M. <br /> Donald B. White said that the Appropriation Committee had voted to <br /> approve this expenditure prior to the increase in the transportation <br /> budget and are not changing their approval, but, they do have some <br /> questions. They urged the School Committee to have a good look at <br /> the major expenditures. 8:57 P.M. <br /> Nyles Nathan Barnert expressed the strong support of the Capital <br /> Expenditures Committee in regard to this motion. <br /> 8:59 P.M. <br /> George A. Burnell moved to amend the motion by striking the figure <br /> of $331,760. and inserting therein the amount of $172,981. This <br /> motion to amend was declared lost by voice vote. 9:09 P.M. <br /> Main motion, as presented by Mrs. Swanson, declared carried <br /> unanimously. 9:10 P.M. <br /> Article 45. Presented by Mary W. Miley: <br /> MOTION: That the care, custody, management and control of the <br /> Adams School and the land adjoining it be transferred from the School <br /> Department to the Board of Selectmen effective September 1, 1980; to <br /> appropriate for such care, custody, management and control the sum <br /> of $10,000.00 therefor; that such amount be raised in the tax levy; <br /> and that the School Committee be authorized to dispose of surplus <br /> personal property and material in connection with the transfer of <br /> surplus buildings and the use of remaining buildings. <br /> 9:10 P.M. <br /> Frank Sandy asked if the Selectmen planned to lease the Adams School <br /> next year and wondered if they had any potential tenants. Mrs. Miley <br /> answered that the Selectmen did not have any plans but would proceed <br /> with the same process as had been utilized with the other schools <br /> that had been turned over to the town. 9:12 P.M. <br /> James E. Barry asked if the playground would be conveyed at this <br /> time and Dr. John Lawson, School Superintendent, answered that the <br /> playground was not under the control of the School Committee. <br /> Mrs. Miley said that the Selectmen do not intend to convey any <br /> property at this time. 9:15 P.M. <br /> Patricia K. Hagedorn asked about the playground at Parker School <br /> and Norman P. Cohen, Town Counsel, said that the playground at <br /> Parker had been under the control of the School. Committee. The <br /> Town Manager said that Adams had a unique situation as the play- <br /> ground at Adams School was under the control of the town. <br /> 9:18 P.M. <br /> Richard A. Michelson moved that this article be tabled but this <br /> motion was declared lost by voice vote. 9 :19 P.M. <br />
