ADJOURNED SESSION OF THE 1980 ANNUAL TOWN MEETING <br /> HEL MARCH 24, 1980 <br /> The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Lincoln P. Cole, Jr. at <br /> 8:10 P.M. in Cary Memorial Hall. <br /> d. <br /> There were 180 Town Meeting Members present. <br /> The invocation was offered by Rev. Charles L. Wilson, Minister at the First <br /> Parish Church, Unitarian Universalist. 8:12 P.M. <br /> James M. McLaughlin moved that Article 47 be taken up, out of order, at this <br /> time as Ronald Fitgerald was available this evening. This motion was carried <br /> unanimously. 8:13 P.M. <br /> Article 47. Presented by Margery M. Battin. <br /> MOTION: That the Town accept the amendment to the agreement <br /> establishing the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School <br /> District as proposed by vote of the Minuteman School Committee on <br /> February 20, 1979 as set forth in this article. <br /> 8:14 P.M. <br /> Mrs. Battin explained that each new member town will pay to Minuteman <br /> for a period of ten years, commencing with the second year of the <br /> new town's membership and ending on the eleventh year of such member- <br /> ship, an annual surcharge of $400 per pupil enrolled on October lst <br /> of the prior year. This surcharge would serve as partial reimburse- <br /> ment to the members of Minuteman for their payments of capital costs <br /> on Minuteman's original school building. The new towns are Bolton, <br /> Lancaster and Needham. 8:15 P.M. <br /> At Mrs. Battin's request, Ronald Fitzgerald, Superintendent of the <br /> Minuteman Vocational. Technical School was recognized. Mr. Fitzgerald <br /> listed the following advantages for the current members as follows: <br /> 1. Adequate enrollment base for career exploration. <br /> 2. Holding down the cost per student. <br /> 3. Gaining a higher return on the initial investment in <br /> construction. <br /> 8:18 P.M. <br /> Main motion, as presented by Mrs. Battin, declared carried unanimously. <br /> 8:18 P.M. <br /> Mary W. Miley informed the meeting that the Selectmen will ask that Article 32 <br /> be postponed until after the next meeting following the Wednesday meeting. In <br /> other words, it will be the first meeting after next Wednesday's (March 26) meeting. <br /> The Moderator stated that the meeting was not at Article 32 yet. At that time, <br /> it will be in order to make a. motion. 8:19 P.M. <br /> The Moderator, in response to the request of various members, asked for a <br /> sense of the meeting in regards to omitting a meeting on April 2, 1980 which is <br /> in Holy Week. (On March 19, 1980 a sense of the meeting vote was that there would <br /> not be a meeting on March 31, 1980, the eve of Passover.) The sense of the <br /> meeting was that there would not be a meeting on March 31, 1980 but that there <br /> would be a meeting on April 2, 1980. 8:21 P.M. <br /> Article 30. Presented by James F. Crain. <br /> MOTION: That the sum of $27,000.00 be appropriated to purchase an -- <br /> ambulance for the Fire Department, that such amount be raised in the <br /> tax levy, and that the Town Manager be authorized to trade in or sell <br /> another ambulance with the proceeds to be applied to the cost of the <br /> new ambulance. 8:21 P.M. <br /> After Mr. Crain explained the need for the new ambulance, his motion <br /> was declared carried unanimously. 8:23 P.M. <br />
