Lexington Human Rights Committee Meeting Minutes <br />July 31, 2009 <br />Present: Gerald McLeod, Joseph O'Leary, Hank Manz, Bob Kent, Linda Vine, Puran <br />Dang , Albert Zabin, Melissa Buttaro, and Deborah Jackson <br />Location: Meeting was held in the BOS Meeting Room — Town Hall and was called to <br />order at 8:1OAM <br />Updates: Reports were given by members regarding community partners <br />• Cary Memorial Library through its "Lexington Reads" program has agreed to <br />partner on this initiative. They would like to meet with the committee to begin <br />planning. <br />- Next Step /Linda will invite Connie & Elizabeth to the 9/18 meeting. <br />• Lion's Club would like to participate and has invited a representative /s to speak <br />at an upcoming meeting — decide who should attend and how they can participate <br />- Next Step / Decide who should attend with Joe serving as contact <br />• Stacy Sheehan — Manager of TD Bank North grant money was available for <br />these kinds of community initiatives. <br />- Next Step / HRC submit grant application TBD <br />• David Harris — Consider inviting as speaker <br />- Next Step / Bob Kent will pursue <br />Programming Follow -up: <br />1. Department of Human Services — will they assist with oral histories component <br />of the program. Members of the LHR committee agreed they would offer their <br />stories — Bob Kent and Puran Dang. Melissa announced that Lexington HS would <br />be willing to assist with the filming. - Emily <br />2. Rotary and Chamber of Commerce — will they partner with HRC — Joe <br />3. CAAL — will they partner with HRC — Fuang <br />4. Interfaith Clergy — will they participate in some way — Richard <br />5. Historian — we may need to identify a historian who can help — Linda <br />6. Film "We Drew A Circle" — Consider for part of the program - Leona <br />Next Meeting & Homework: <br />How did Lexington evolve into the community we are today? Look at changes <br />from 1950 forward / post WWI 1 <br />where we've come from <br />• where we want to go as a community <br />
