Minutes of the Lexington Tree Committee <br /> April 8, 2021 at 7:30 am <br /> Held virtually via ZOOM <br /> Present: Gerry Paul (chair), Jim Wood, Gloria Bloom, Mark Conner, Nancy Sofen, Pat Moyer, <br /> Mark Sandeen (Select Board liaison), Marc Valenti (DPW). <br /> Absent: Chris Filadoro (Tree Warden) <br /> Guests: Rick Reibstein, Charlie Wyman (both from Sustainable Lexington Committee) <br /> Tree Warden (via email) and DPW Operations Updates <br /> University of Vermont has been given the green light to start work on Tree Canopy survey, and <br /> work will also begin on the last section of the Tree Inventory. Marc stated that the DPW does <br /> not circulate proposals to committees, but we will see final reports. <br /> John Frey Memorial <br /> John told several people, including his widow Wilma and Anne Senning, before his death that he <br /> would like several red oaks planted in Tower Park in his memory. Jim Wood will coordinate <br /> with Chris and with George Gagliardi of the Bicycle Advisory Group to come up with a plan for <br /> planting, a marker and a ceremony. The committee unanimously approved spending $1,000 <br /> from the Tree Fund to support these plantings, with additional funds to be raised by others. <br /> Make Lex Green <br /> Annika Johnson of the LHS club Make Lex Green proposed naming trees in the center to reaise <br /> funds for their club. This is not reasonable for a number of reasons (streetscape project, <br /> jurisdiction); Pat Moyer will contact her to discuss alternatives such as naming trees at LHS. <br /> Public Tree Planting Event <br /> Mark Conner to attend next small meeting with Chris and Marc to discuss in more detail <br /> Tree Management Manual <br /> Gerry sent the John Frey dedication page to Wilma Frey; Pat to proofread printed draft. <br /> Town Meeting <br /> Articles 32, 33 and 34 scheduled for Wednesday, April 14. <br /> Public Education <br /> Charlie Wyman asked if committee members are interested in working with Lexington Living <br /> Landscapes on public education for more sustainable landscapes. They offer virtual programs, <br /> printed materials, and a web site. Mark, Marty, Pat and Nancy expressed interest. <br /> Tree Bylaw Enforcement <br /> Nancy to write reports detailing concerns about bylaw enforcement and fee collections, asking <br /> for response from Chris and DPW. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Nancy Sofen <br />
