OFFICE OF SELECTMEN <br /> t7r <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> Whereas: in August of 1919, Isadore "U" Michelson (I` Generation) purchased his cousin B. Aronson's <br /> harness and shoe repair store in Lexington Center at 1806 Massachusetts Avenue;and <br /> Whereas: in 1926, the store, including its offerings of footwear to purchase, moved to 1808 Massachusetts <br /> Avenue, and began the family's commitment to the community by extending credit whenever <br /> possible during the depths of the Great Depression;and <br /> Whereas: in 1939,Harold Michelson(2"d Generation)took over the business following the illness of his father, <br /> Isadore Michelson,and the store moves locations to 1788 Massachusetts Avenue;and <br /> Whereas: in 1965, Harold Michelson made the decision to give up the shoe repair business to focus on shoe <br /> sales and the business moves to its present location at 1780 Massachusetts Avenue;and <br /> Whereas: this new store was designed by his son,Richard"Dick"Michelson(3`d Generation), in the spirit of <br /> the 1960's revitalization of Lexington Center, to resemble a traditional New England streetscape; <br /> and <br /> Whereas: in 1975,Dick Michelson took over the business as Harold retires;and <br /> Whereas: in 1985, a second store is opened in Needham, Massachusetts,and by the end of the 1980's, Eric <br /> Michelson(4`n Generation)and Jerry Michelson(4`n Generation)have both joined the business;and <br /> Whereas: Dick Michelson supported the Lexington business community through his long-term service on the <br /> Lexington Chamber of Commerce as a member,Board member and President;and <br /> Whereas: Dick Michelson's service at the Chamber of Commerce included such special projects as: the <br /> management of the Lexington Visitors Center, the annual fundraising for the Lexington Center <br /> Holiday Lighting,and the annual fundraising for the Patriots' Day parade;and <br /> Whereas: in 2000, the Michelson Family was instrumental in forming the Lexington Retailers Association, <br /> which takes over the coordination of the Annual Memorial Day Weekend Discovery Day sidewalk <br /> sale and in 2002,further draws consumers to Lexington Center by starting the annual Trick or Treat <br /> with Lexington Center businesses;and <br /> Whereas: in 2014,Michelson's Shoes was recognized by the Retailers Association of Massachusetts as one of <br /> the top retailers in the state and is awarded a RAMAE award and inducted into the Hall of Fame; <br /> and <br /> Whereas: in 2019 Michelson's Shoes celebrates 100 years of business in Lexington,Massachusetts. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, WE THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN of the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts, hereby <br /> recognize <br /> Michelson's Shoes <br /> on the occasion of their 100`n year of business in the Town of Lexington,Massachusetts and thank them for the <br /> exceptional customer service they have provided to customers,as well as their dedication and commitment to <br /> the entire Lexington community over the years. <br /> IN WITNESS WHE ,OF,we pave set our hands and caused the seal of Lexington to be affixed herewith on the <br /> 18 <br /> cnpfN o)vember 2 '19. <br /> DOUG ,CENTS,CHAIR AN 90, :PATO `'wy <br /> t LO I 1( <br /> !SUZANNE .
