>7' EoWn of lexington, a5!5arbu!5ett!5 <br /> 14 kPl{Alj' ,;:+'/ <br /> kr...,sxc s0 <br /> OFFICE OF SELECTMEN <br /> l <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> Whereas: the Town of Lexington is comprised of multicultural,multiethnic and multiracial citizens;and <br /> Whereas: friendship,collegiality, civility,respect,and kindness are commonly shared ideals of the <br /> collective citizenry of the Town of Lexington;and <br /> Whereas: racism is a barrier to the achievement of a just and peaceful world;and <br /> Whereas: the United States has made great progress in racial justice in the past century,but still faces many <br /> challenges in the 2151 century;and <br /> Whereas: starting in 2011,through the efforts of the National Center for Race Amity(NCRA) in <br /> Boston,Massachusetts on the second Sunday in June,the nation began celebrating The <br /> Other Tradition—the history of cross racial,cross cultural friendships that brought <br /> people together to advance equity and social justice;and <br /> Whereas: the Towards E Pluribus Unum Initiative has invited communities across the United States <br /> of America to join in introspection and reflection on the beauty and richness of the <br /> diverse peoples of this great nation while reaching out with a spirit of amity toward one <br /> another annually on the second Sunday in June; and <br /> Whereas: in 2015,the Massachusetts legislature passed a bill,signed into law by Governor Charles D. <br /> Baker Jr.,making the second Sunday in June always"Race Amity Day"in the Commonwealth of <br /> Massachusetts;and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE BOARD OF SELECTMENof the Town of Lexington,Massachusetts do hereby recognize <br /> the second Sunday in June as: <br /> Race Amity Day <br /> and encourages citizens of Lexington to celebrate the racial,cultural,and religious diversity of our community on Sunday, <br /> June 9,2019. <br /> IN WITNESS WHEREOF,we have set ou hands and caused the seal of Lexington to be affixed herewith on the 201 of <br /> May 2019 <br /> a,w , <br /> DOUGLA .LUCENTE,CHAIRMAN'J JOS H Td.PATO <br /> UZA E tUAKKY 1 HA <br /> MARK D.SANDE£N <br />
