Commission on Disability <br /> Minutes for December 6, 2018 <br /> Present:Victoria Buckley, Chair; Francine Stieglitz; Shaun Grady;Julie Miller; Len Morse-Fortier <br /> Liaisons: Kelly Axtell,Assistant Town Manager;James Kelly, Building Commissioner;Joe Pato, Selectman; <br /> Rod Cole, CEC <br /> Guests: Shawn Newell,Assistant Director of Public Facilities; Keith Ohmart, Greenway Corridor <br /> Committee <br /> 1. Reviewed minutes for October and November—voted and approved <br /> 2. Shawn Newell discussed accessibility projects at the school playgrounds. <br /> • At Bowman,the proposed playground surface is a PIP (poured-in-place) rubber surface that <br /> is more accessible but costs three times as much as wood chips. The Bowman project is <br /> asking for 100%CPA funding. <br /> • At Bridge,the ground will be re-levelled to bring the surface up higher for accessibility; it will <br /> feature two molded swings, a tactile board and an upper extremity workout station. This <br /> project will ask for CPA funds of$302,000. <br /> • At Harrington,the playground has been updated. <br /> 3. Keith Ohmart from the Greenway Corridor Committee discussed the work being done to make <br /> the trails more accessible. <br /> • Parker Meadow—funds will be requested for survey <br /> • Willards'Woods—a survey is needed. <br /> • Cotton Farm—project is moving ahead to make at least one path to all areas accessible. <br /> • Community Connector—this trail network project needs$1,000,000 to connect trails from <br /> Community Center to end of Worthen Road which will benefit everyone, but especially high <br /> school students. There is an Environmental Bond Bill that goes for 5-year cycles that could help <br /> with matching funds. <br /> 4. New business <br /> • Julie discussed the problem with the weight of the bathroom doors at the Community <br /> Center; Shawn will check on this. <br /> • Reminder about film "Including Samuel" on January 17. <br /> Minutes respectfully submitted by Victoria Buckley <br />
