TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Members: 7
Appointed by: Board of Selectmen
Length of Term: 3 years, staggered
Appointments made: September 30
Meeting Times: Monthly or as needed
Description The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) initiates and supports efforts to meet the
transportation needs of Lexington's residents and advises the Selectmen and other town boards and committees on
issues that concern alternatives to single occupancy vehicle travel. The Committee works with Lexington's
Transportation Services Coordinator on issues and projects related to Lexpress, the town's mini -bus service.
Members recommend Lexpress schedules, routes and fares to the Board of Selectmen. The committee and
Lexington's Transportation Services Coordinator also respond to and advocate for MBTA and other public
transportation services that support Lexington residents and encourage regional transportation alternatives. Some
members serve as liaisons to, or participate on, local and regional transportation- related organizations or
committees.
Criteria for Membership Members should demonstrate support for transportation services, including public
transportation, as they affect Lexington. Knowledge of transportation services and facilities is desirable but not
required. Non - voting ex- officio members of this Committee should be those persons already representing the town
on transit matters.
Ref.: Charge adopted by Board of Selectmen, October 27, 1975
Charge amended in 1982 to increase membership to 9.
Selectmen designated as Special Municipal Employees on January 9, 1984.
Selectmen reaffirmed designation as Special Municipal Employees on January 18, 2006.
Amended in 2012 to change membership from 9 to 7, to allow for flexibility in frequency of meetings,
and to better reflect the broad based transportation- related aspects of the committee's work.
