A meeting of the Lexington Tree Committee was held on November 8, 2018, 7:30-9:30 a.m. at <br /> the Samuel Hadley Public Services Building. A quorum of seven was present. <br /> Members Present: Gerry Paul (chair), Gloria Bloom, John Frey (Emeritus), Jewel Kuljian, Pat <br /> Moyer, Nancy Sofen, Anne Senning, Jim Wood, Jill Hai, (Selectman Liaison), Bob Creech, <br /> (Planning Board Liaison) <br /> The meeting acted on the following items: <br /> 1. Anne Senning was appointed as scribe. <br /> 2. Review of Minutes of October 11, 2018. Minutes approved with changes. <br /> 3. Town Recreation Complex: Plan is moving forward. One Norway maple needs to be <br /> removed near the wading pool with either plan. <br /> 4. Possible placeholders for Spring Town Meeting: <br /> • "To see if the Town will vote to strengthen the Town of Lexington Tree Bylaw with <br /> respect to protected trees and required mitigation at large building development sites. <br /> DESCRIPTION: Recent large building developments have resulted in the removal of <br /> significant components of the tree canopy in Lexington. The changes proposed here are intended <br /> to discourage the removal of such trees." Placeholder approved. <br /> • $45,000 budget initiative discussed but not moved to a vote. <br /> 5. Town Tree Manual Report: Anne Senning and John Frey presented Appendix X, XI, XII <br /> and XIII to the Tree Committee for a vote on inclusion in the fourth edition of the Lexington <br /> Tree Management Manual. Four appendices approved. <br /> 6. Best Practices Study discussion: Nancy Sofen presented a report of Best Practices for Tree <br /> Planting with a focus on species selection. The Committee voted to follow the guidelines written <br /> for the fourth edition of the Lexington Tree Management Manual with the exception of <br /> recommendations about host trees for the Asian longhorn. There was one dissent. <br /> Nancy will email or hand-deliver the latest version to Chris. We will discuss with Chris in our <br /> December meeting <br /> 7. Visibility to Town Tree Plantings -we have not received information for the 2017 and <br /> 2018 plantings. Jill will follow up on this. <br /> There was no remote participation.
