Town of Lexington
Lexington Center Committee
Minutes for the meeting of June 14th, 2018
Parker Room, 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, 8:40 am to 10:00 am
Center Committee Members: Michael Boudett, Katherine Huang, Frederic Johnson
(Acting Chair), Pamela Lyons, Pamela Shadley, David Tabeling
Liaisons: Joe Pato, Board of Selectmen, Frank Smith, Capital Expenditures Committee,
Melisa Tintocalis, Economic Development Director, David Pinsonneault, Department of
Public Works
Pamela Shadley gave an update on the Streetscape Meeting of June 11. David
Pinsonneault informed us that the intent is to go to Town Meeting for 100% design costs
in the fall and construction costs in the spring.
Melisa Tintocalis let us know that the lighting for GMA has been approved by HDC
and the furniture is out. Melisa thought we might introduce an element (perhaps
planters) from the Streetscape project. (I have a note about 10K from Shire that could be
used for GMA. Are the funds for GMA only, the Center, or what?) Some discussion of
signage for traffic calming in the center ensued. The Parking Management Group has
been looking to add spaces for on street parking. Joe Pato noted that there have been
requests for senior parking discounts.
Melisa discussed the options for the temporary Visitors Center. The Masonic Center has
very bad pedestrian crossings. Melisa (and the Center Committee members generally)
preferred a trailer. Members were urged to check out Bryant Park in NYC (online) for
ideas on how to make the Visitors Center an amenity for residents, including how to
program for Emery Park, Grain Mill Alley, and the Fletcher Street greenspace. The idea
is to make the Visitors Center the hub for information and programming in Lexington
Center.
The quorum voted 6 to 0 to accept the minutes for the MaylOth, 2018 meeting.
