Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting April 4, 2018 Room 242, Lexington Community Center Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; Kim Coburn, Linda Dixon, Karen Gaughan, Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Sandy Podgorski, Bob Tracey, Bill Mix, Carol Flynn, Mary Hutton, Cerise Jalelian, Wei Ding. Members Not Present June Baer, Henry Murphy, Gina Rada, Dave Taylor, Sam Zales, Geetha Padaki, Sue Stering, Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton. Business • The Chair reported that a quorum was present. • The minutes of the meeting of March 28, 2018, were approved. • The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Rm. at the Community Center. Approval of Parade Applications • CALEX , a civic organization, was accepted to participate in the parade on a no-fee basis. The group had requested a fee. Lorain will explain to the group that it I not our practice to pay civic groups. • Lexington Youth Hockey will not participate this year. However, its sponsoring organization, Corporate Limousine has agreed to be a sponsor for the parade this year. Patriots Day, Monday, April 16, 2018 • Parking: Lorain and Karen met with the Police Department and Public Works representatives about the issue of parking the day of the parade. Police Sgt. George Snell was against our idea of closing off Worthern Road to non-parade participant parking. His point was that people are used to going there to park and that there was sufficient parking available to parade participants. We can use all high school lots this year. Also, Metropolitan Life will not be under construction so we can use that lot too. One Militia Drive will be available for Westfield Band and also committee members. There was discussion about how to reserve parking for Westfield Band vehicles both before the band arrives at about 11 and while they are taking members to the beginning of the parade. Nothing was firmly decided. Sondra will talk to Doug Lucente about how to solve the problem. • Sandy will ride with the Westfield Band on its lead bus to direct them to the beginning of the parade. • Kim presented a small rendition of a large banner that she and the people at Wales Copy designed to thank all the sponsors of this year's parade. It will be displayed on the reviewing stand across from the library. Hopefully, the cost will be under $200. Kim suggested and it
