TOWN OF LEXINGTON <br />Massachusetts <br />02420 <br />Minutes of September 3, 1998 <br />PETITIONS HEARD: <br />HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br />Commissioners in attendance: Ian Adamson, Mark DiNapoli and Steve Politi. (Richard Bechtel joined in <br />deliberations after the hearing for 703 Massachusetts Avenue); Associate commissioners: Walter Bergler, Sara <br />Chase, Elaine Doran, and Eleanor MacQueen. <br />36 Bedford Street — This hearing was continued from the June 4, 1998 hearing. Due to code requirements the <br />Stop & Shop Company sought to modify the Certificate of Appropriateness. The Commission gave approval for <br />rebuilding the wall facing Worthen Road rather than in- filling with brick. In addition the hip roof will be <br />extended in the back and mechanical equipment will be installed behind the highest point of the roof. <br />Certificate 98C -74 <br />6 Hancock Avenue — Mary Pat Happ received approval of a wooden screen door. Certificate 98C -75. <br />703 Massachusetts Avenue — Joel Slotkin will be doing construction work on the Waldorf High School. A <br />Certificate of Appropriateness was granted for a temporary construction sign. Certificate 98C -76. <br />1775R Massachusetts Avenue — Bill Crosby presented plans for a sign to be mounted over the rear door. The <br />plans as amended were approved. Certificate 98C -77. <br />1646 Massachusetts Avenue — Sharon Spaulding representing Spaulding Management presented a change in the <br />background color of the directory sign. The new color was approved. Certificate 98C -78. <br />1656 Massachusetts Avenue — Sharon Spaulding said that the plans were not finalized for signs so the hearing <br />was continued. <br />41 -49 Waltham Street — David Petkewich and Aban Makarechian presented revised plans for the Guardian <br />Savings building. The plans as presented were approved in concept and will be given formal approval when the <br />final construction documents are submitted. <br />1840 Massachusetts Avenue - Nancy Leger of Boston Federal Savings presented revised plans. The sign, stone <br />bench and window box brackets were approved. Certificate 98C -79. <br />627 Massachusetts Avenue — Mirko Matejic's latest plans for a garage at the rear of his house were approved. <br />Certificate 98C -80. <br />INFORMAL HEARINGS: <br />16 Hancock Street — The clerk presented plans on behalf of Rick Castino who was called out of town. Ian <br />Adamson will discuss the plans for a ramp with the builder before the next meeting. <br />
