TOWN OF LEXINGTON
Massachusetts
02173
MINUTES OF MAY 7, 1998
PETITIONS HEARD:
HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMIVIISSION
Commissioners in attendance: Ian Adamson, Richard Bechtel, Joann Gschwendtner, and
Stephen Politi; Associate Commissioners: Sara Chase, Elaine Doran, Eleanor MacQueen
1580 Massachusetts Avenue - Two signs which hang from the main sign were approved.
Certificate 98C -38.
Municipal Parking Lot, Depot Square/Edison Way - Peter Chalpin and George Woodbury
presented plans for the parking lot attendant's booth. It was approved, to be placed on an island at
the entrance to the lot. Certificate 98C -39.
55 Waltham Street - (R. Bechtel stepped out during the consideration of this petition.) Bill
Ericson and Jeffrey Lyon explained how space planning issues had lead to proposed exterior
changes. Changes in the doors and windows, residing and painting were approved. The rear
dormer work will be the subject of a continued hearing. Certificate 98C -40.
73 Waltham Street - Brian Brinkers presented plans for a new sign reflecting the change from
Nynex to Bell Atlantic. The Commission expressed a preference for individual letters, as had
originally been used on the building, rather than a one piece sign. The hearing was continued.
1690 Massachusetts Avenue - Karen Mulligan presented a plan to replace the sign in the rear
parking lot of Dccclle's with individual orange plastic letters. The Commission did not care for the
proposal but was not sure that they had jurisdiction over the sign. The applicant will check on
whether it can be seen from a public way. The hearing was continued.
12 Bedford Street - Donald and Lodia Pa sought approval of a color change for their house.
It was approved. Certificate 98C -41.
1444 Massachusetts Avenue - Brian Hackley and Wendy Carter presented plans for a variety of
projects. The commission approved the replacement of the driveway, a new patio, replacing a
stockade fence, rebuilding of the back porch and replacement of cellar windows. The hearing was
continued to allow further consideration of the front walk Certificate 98C -42.
1628 Massachusetts Avenue - Kevin Fraser requested two signs to be mounted on the sides of the
bay at his store Pet Mania. These would replace the existing sign hanging on the porch. The
Commission members suggested using the existing sign, hanging from a bracket to give him the
visibility he wants. Hearing was continued.
