• <br />• <br />• <br />MINUTES OF MEETING <br />of the <br />Lexington Historic Districts Commission <br />Wednesday 14 November 1990 <br />A meeing of the Lexington Historic Districts Commission was held on <br />Wednesday, November 14, 1990 in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town <br />Office Building, Lexington, Massachusetts. <br />Present at the meeting were Commissioners John L. Davies, Chairman; <br />Linda J. McAulay; Stephen M. Politi; and Associate Commissioners Walter H. <br />Bergler, Jr.; and Walter S. Pierce. In the absence of the Clerk of the <br />Commission, Commissioner McAulay recorded the minutes. <br />At 8:00 PM the Chairman declared the meeting open and read the notice on <br />the application of Sterling Bank (Lexington Savings Bank) with respect to the <br />erection and display of signs on the building at 1776 Massachusetts Avenue, <br />which is in the Battle Green District. Sumner Ochs of Back Bay Sign Company <br />in Somerville made a presentation on behalf of the bank, submitting plans of <br />the signs and photographs of their proposed locations on the front and side <br />of the building. It was VOTED unanimously (Commissioner Politi abstaining <br />because of a possible conflict of interest) that the signs be approved as <br />presented, with the added stipulations that the stone band be steam - cleaned <br />or sand blasted if necessary, that the letters on the front sign not cover <br />the horizontal stone joints and that the dimensions of the plaque on the side <br />of the building be adjusted so as not to cover the horizontal stone joints. <br />The Commission then continued the hearing on the application of the <br />Waldorf School for an exterior architectural change on the premises at 739 <br />Massachusetts Avenue, which is in the East Village District. Joyce Birns <br />presented a revised plan for a fence around the dismissal area extended to <br />the edge of the property. It was VOTED unanimously that the proposed fence <br />be approved as presented. <br />The Cul fission then continued the hearing on the application of Stately <br />Flowers, Inc. for an exterior architectural change to the building at 7 <br />Meriam Street, which is in the Battle Green District. Having received the <br />revised plans for an open box awning with no top, as prepared by Blanchard's <br />of Wakefield, the Commissioners were able to consider the proposal without <br />representation. It was VOTED unanimously that the proposed awning be <br />approved as presented. <br />Peter Kelley of the Lexington Historical Society then made an informal <br />presentation on handrail proposed for the front entrance of the building at <br />1332 Massachusetts Avenue, which is in the Munroe Tavern District. The <br />applicant was reminded that the Commission requests proper drawings and <br />photos of the proposed change for the formal hearing in December. <br />
