• • • MINUTES OF MEETING of the Lexington Historic Districts Commission Wednesday 19 September 1990 A meeting of the Lexington Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, September 19, 1990 in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town Office Building, Lexington, Massachusetts. Present at the meeting were Commissioners John L. Davies, Chairman; Linda J. McAuley, Secretary; Stephen M. Politi; Associate Commissioners Walter H. Bergler, Jr.; and Elizabeth B. Cotten; and Charles D. Grant, Clerk. At 8:00 PM the Chairman declared the meeting open and read the notice on the application of Lisa Puopolo d/b /a Liatris Hair Design with respect to the erection and display of a sign on the building at 6 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. She and James Puopolo presented a plan of the sign and showed a photograph of the building where the sign is to be installed. It was VOTED unanimously that the sign, made of wood measuring 6' -8" long X 1' -8" high, painted white with incised letters reading "Liatris" in script letters painted black, and "Hair Design" in painted black letters underneath, be approved as presented, with the added provision that there be approximately 4" between the top of the window casing and the bottom of the sign. Bills of $66.49 from Beacon Communications, and $348.75 for services plus $117.79 for expenses from C.D. Grant were VOTED unanimously. At 8:15 PM the Chairman read the notice on the application of Nancy Schock for an exterior architectural change on the building at 8 Marrett Road, which is within the East Village District. She and Charles Schock presented a set of plans, including the north elevation showing the proposed extension to the kitchen, the west elevation showing no change, the plot plan and the construction section, and a set of photographs. In a discussion on the windows visible on the north elevation, their different sizes were deemed appropriate because the old windows will be used in the new extension. It was VOTED unanimously that the proposed change be approved as presented, with the materials and colors to match those on the existing building. At 8:30 PM the Chairman read the notice on the application of Cary Memorial Library for an exterior architectural change on the building at 1847 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. The proposed change concerns the installation, in the interest of comfort and conservation, of operating casement windows and screens in two of the five existing windows in the bottom tier of windows in the main reading room. Robert Hilton, Director of the library, presented a photograph on which the proposed redesigned windows were sketched.
