Davies, Chairman;
Linda J. McAulay, Secretary; and Stephen M. Politi; Associate Commissioners
Walter H. Bergler, Jr.; and Elizabeth B. Cotten; and Charles D. Grant, Clerk.
When, at 8:13 a quorum was gathered, the Chairman declared the meeting
open and read the notice on the application of BayBank Harvard Trust with
respect to the erection and display of a sign on the building at 1761
Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Raymond
Taber of BayBank Head Office and John Thompson of Jim Did It Sign Company
made a presentation, submitting a sketch of the front elevation of the
building and showing photographs of the same portion. It was VOTED
unanimously to approve the proposed sign, identical in construction, typeface
and color to the existing sign, except that the letters will be 9" high
instead of 7" high.
At the second hearing the Chairman read the notice on the application of
Carlson Peal Estate with respect to the erection and display of signs on the
building at 1775 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green
District. Ed Juralewicz of Sign Express together with Diane McIver of
Carlson Real Estate made a presentation, submitting scale drawings of the
proposed signs and a photograph of that part of the building where the signs
will be attached. The signmaker showed a sample of the raised letters made
of injection moulded plastic which caused the Commission to question the
finish of the plastic letters, noting that wooden letters are more in keeping
with the building and the block. It was VOTED unanimously that the signs be
approved as presented, except that they are to be made of wooden letters,
with matt black finish, and with the hollow of the 0 in Carlson in red.
At the third hearing the Chairman read the notice on the application of
Laurel Hudson with respect to exterior architectural changes to the building
at 8 Parker Street, which is within the Battle Green District. The applicant
submitted conceptual drawings of a proposed renovation of the front porch and
showed photographs of the existing house. It was VOTED unanimously that the
proposed renovations be approved as presented, with the materials and color
to match the existing house. The applicant also submitted a drawing showing
the proposed installation of three 22" X 55" Velux skylights in the rear
portion of the southerly slope of the roof. It was VOTED unanimously that
the installation of the proposed skylights be approved.
In a continued hearing, Norma D. Perry, representing the Dana Home at
2027 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District,
submitted revised plans of a proposed replacement fire escape made of iron,
