• <br />• <br />• <br />MINUTES OF MEETING <br />of the <br />Lexington Historic Districts Commission <br />Wednesday 4 April 1990 <br />A meeting of the Lexington Historic Districts Commission was held on <br />Wednesday, April 4, 1990 in Room G-15 of the Town Office Building, Lexington, <br />Massachusetts. <br />Present at the meeting were Commissioners John L. Davies, Chairman; <br />Stephen M. Politi; Associate Commissioners Walter H. Bergler; Elizabeth B. <br />Cotten; and Mary Harding Nye; in the absence of the Clerk of the Commission, <br />Commissioner Bergler recorded the minutes. <br />At 8:00 PM the Chairman declared the meeting open and read an <br />application from Elaine Crandall d/b /a Montage of Lexington with respect to <br />the erection and display of signs on the building at 1707 Massachusetts <br />Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. It was VOTED unanimously <br />that the sign on the parking lot side be approved as presented, measuring <br />18" X 54 ", with a white background to match the building panel, grey letters <br />with black outline, and background of teal green. A decision on an oval sign <br />to hang in the archway of the building was deferred. <br />The next hearing concerned an application from Anthony and Peter <br />Bongiorno d/b /a Craft Cleaners with respect to the erection and display of <br />signs on the same building at 1707 Massachusetts Avenue. It was VOTED <br />unanimously that the flat signs be approved as presented, measuring <br />28" X 28 ", with gold leaf letters, a background logo in blue (Benjamin Moore <br />#840) and no border. A similar sign on the parking lot side of the building, <br />which could be 24" X 24" or 28" X 28 ", whichever looks most suitable, was <br />approved. Placing the street number, 1707, with the bottom of the numbers to <br />be even with the fascia board, was also approved. The subject of hanging <br />signs on the building was discussed and a decision deferred to a later <br />meeting. <br />The third scheduled applicant, Carter Scott d/b /a Transformations at 627 <br />Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District, was not able <br />to attend the meeting. <br />In the next hearing, Giovanna Egiz d/b /a Cose Belle Ltd presented an <br />application with respect to the erection and display of a sign on the <br />building at 15 Waltham Street, which is within the Battle Green District. It <br />was VOTED unanimously that the sign, having black letters on a white <br />background, be approved as submitted. <br />Roger and Mary Hill then made an informal presentation with respect to <br />the installation of a children's play structure and a brick walk on the <br />premises at 9 Hancock Street, which is within the Battle Green District. The <br />Commission approved the new 30" wide brick walk and the relocation of the <br />"jungle gym" to the site currently occupied by the vegetable garden (and the <br />relocation of the vegetable garden to the place where the structure is now). <br />
