Mr. Packard read the legal <br /> notice. Mrs. Mary Louise Touart, £hairman of the Permanent Building Com- <br /> mittee~ Donald Gillespie, Director of the Bicentennial Banda and Levi <br /> Burnell, member of the Band and Rotary Club represented the petitioner. <br /> Also present were Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Cohen of 4 Hastings Road. Mrs. Touaxt <br /> showed the sketch submitted at the earlier hearing and submitted three <br /> copies of plot plans showing that the bandstand would be 225' back from <br /> Worthen Road, 200' in from Lincoln Street, and 130' in from Massachusetts <br /> Avenue. She stated that no parking would be permitted on Hastings Road. <br /> Mr. Packard asked if this would be the preferred location if recreational <br /> use of the Park were not involved. Mr. Gillespie said that accoustically <br /> it might be better if located higher up the hill, and Mr. Whipple said that <br /> he feels would be better to put up betwen the birch trees and where the hill <br /> starts. Both Mr. & Mrs. Cohen said that the object to a permanent band- <br /> stand on Hastings Park and that they understood that, when the Hastings <br /> family gave the park to the Town, it was stipulated that the part remain <br /> as it is. The emphasized that they had no objection to the band using <br /> Hastings Park for concerts, but they xere stronly opposed to a permanent <br /> bandstand. Mr. Gillespie said that portable bandstands are not satisfac- <br /> tory and that their main problem is need of light for evening playing. <br /> Mr. Packard said that, if approve, he feels should specify underground <br /> lighting cables. Following further discussion, Mr. Packard adjourned the <br /> hearing at 9s00 P.M. to Ss30 P.M. on Wednesday, February 2i, 1979• <br /> Mr. Packaz+d submitted the revised drawings submitted by Consumer <br /> Value Stores so that the members of the Commission could study the door <br /> location change. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 9s20 P.M. ~j ~7/(/~~,, <br /> Georgia H.
