HISTORIC DISTRICTS CObtMISSION <br /> April 21, 1978 <br /> A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held at 7:45 P.M. on <br /> Wednesday, April 21, 1976, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room. Present were <br /> Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; <br /> S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioners Oliver F. Hooper who was <br /> appaointed to fill the vacancy, and Ruth B. Adams who was appointed to serve <br /> for Commissioner Thomas J. Holzbog. <br /> A hearing was held at 7:55 P.M. on the application of Jean Holtey and <br /> Magda Figwer d/b/a The Threaded Needle for a Certificate with respect to the <br /> erection of a sign on the building at 1620 Massachusetts Avenue, which is <br /> within the Battle Green District. The 5'8: long sign will be hung on the <br /> far right of the porch. Following discussion of the sign having changed <br /> color when polyurethane was painted Aver the gold leaf letters and logo , <br /> the hearing was adjourned at 8:25 P.M. to May 5th. <br /> At 8:25 P.M. a hearing was held on the application of Walter Judge d/b/a <br /> Interiors Unlimited was held with respect to the erection of a sign on the <br /> building at 32 Waltham Street, whichis within the Battle Green District. <br /> Following discussion of the drawings presented, the hearing was closed at <br /> 9:00 P.M. <br /> At 9:05 P.hl. a hearing was held on the application of Ong Ong, Inc. for <br /> a Certificate with respect to changes to the exterior and erection of a sign <br /> on the building at 21-25 Depot Square, which premises are within the Battle <br /> <br /> Green District. Mr. Bortman discussed the proposed awning of either green <br /> <br /> or terracotta to be erected over the front entrance. It was stated that a <br /> ramp for-handicapped people has to be installed, a new service door from <br /> <br /> Depot Place, and exhaust pipes are needed. The sign to read "Yangtze River <br /> Restaurant" will match the other signs on the building and will be located <br /> above the 2nd to 5th bays. The hearing was adjourned at 11:00 P.M. <br /> Mr. Jaquith stated that he is considering the "hardship" clause for use <br /> in approving a new flagpole for the Battle Green. <br /> It was VOTED to issue Certificates for signs to Jerry Slack d/b/a The <br /> <br /> Cycle Loft, Carrigg and Erickson, and Walter judge d/b/a Interiors Unlimited. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 P.M. <br /> Georgia H.
