<br /> r` • • <br /> HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br /> A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, <br /> September 24, 1975. in Room 111, Town Office Building, Lexington. Present <br /> were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secre- <br /> tary= Donald J, Shaw: and Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams and Amelia <br /> G. 5amoylenko. Mrs. Adams was appointed to serve for Commissioner Thomas <br /> J. Holzbog who was unable to be present, Mrs. 5amoylenko was appointed to <br /> serve for Commissioner S. Lawrence Whipple who was unable to be present. <br /> A hearing was held at 8:00 P.M. on the application of Francis G. and <br /> Barbara W. Fuery fora Certificate with respect to changes in color of the <br /> dwelling at b?'8 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village Dis- <br /> trict. Mr. Jaquith read the application, The house is at the corner of <br /> Massachusetts Avenue and Pleasant Street and is naw a charcoal gray color. <br /> The house is wood although the ell is aluminum siding, They would like to <br /> change the color of the house from gray to a rustic Brown, Mr. Fuery said <br /> that he had looked into painting aluminum sidinn and submitted a Letter <br /> from Peter's Painting of Lexington stating that it could be done. Mrs, <br /> Fuery said that she had talked with Bix Shoemaker and he also said that <br /> aluminum siding could be painted. They will use a latex paint as that is <br /> batter on aluminum siding. They would Like to paint the house a dark <br /> brown, the window sash and muntins a pewter color, and retain the red door <br /> and white doorway. It was decided that more investigation should be done <br /> with respect to painting over aluminum siding. The hearing was adjourned <br /> at 8x30 P.M. <br /> A meeting was held at 8a30 P.M, with Elizabeth Reinhardt, Chairman of <br /> the Historical Commission, and Ann Grady, a member of the Commission, Mrs. <br /> Reinhardt said that they have completed inventorying all houses and build- <br /> ings over 50 years old in the Historic Districts with the exception of the <br /> center of Lexington. Mrs, Grady spoke briefly about a Historic Districts <br /> Seminar she had attended on September 20th and said that Robert Neiley had <br /> recommended five things in his talk which are as follows: 1) publish <br /> guidelines - it was stated that those of Savannah, Georgia were the best; <br /> 2) deal successfully with the press; 9) teach local architectural history <br /> in the schools; 4) praise someone who has done a good ,job improving or re- <br /> storing property; 5) offer free advice, Mrs, Reinhardt shaved the forms <br /> that they have bean filling out as they irsventoried the properties and said <br /> that these would be filed with the Massachusetts Historical Commission as <br /> soon as copies have been made for the Commission's files. The meeting was <br /> adjourned at 10:00 P.M. <br /> An application from Sarah W. Hunt for a Certificate with respect to <br /> changing the color of the trim on their dwelling at 8 Hancock Avenue, which <br /> is within the Hancock-Clarks District, was read, The house is being re- <br /> painted the same color but they would like to change the trim, eaves, etc, <br /> to white. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certifi- <br /> cate of Appropriateness to Lawrence B, and Sarah W. Hunt with respect to a <br /> change in color of the trim of the dwelling at 8 Haneoek Avenue, which is <br /> within the Hancock-Clarke District. Participating in this decision were <br /> Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Donald J. Shaw, and <br /> Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams and Amelia G.
