HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION
A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday,
September 18, 1974, at 8:00 P,M, in Room G5, Town Office Building, Lexington,
Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jagvith~ Chairman; Georgia H, Williams,
Secretary; Donald J. Shaw; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioner
Amalie G. Samoylenko. Mrs, Samoylenko was appointed to serve for Commis-
sioner Thomas J. Holzbog who was unable to be present.
Mr, Jaquith discussed the notice of the hearing scheduled for September
25th on the application of Stephen Minasian with respect to a free standing
sign on the premises at 10 Muzzey Street and said that the notice was broad
enough to cover the Board of Appeals decision on this sign,
Mr, Jaquith stated that he had submitted a draft of a Certificate of
Appropriateness for the Lexington Historical Society with respect to the
erection of a foundation on the premises at 3b Hancock Street and moving the
Hancock-C~.arke House to said premises to Roland Greeley, President of the
Society, Then followed discussion regarding the Society's request that one
word of the Certificate be changed,
Then followed a discussion on the lighting for the sign for the Baskin-
Robbins store at 1729 Massachusetts Avenue, It was decided that single tube
fluorescent light only would be approved for this sign and that this would
be incorporated in the Certificate of Appropriateness,
Color changes for the sixteen units of the Russell Square Condominiums

were discussed,
The application of the Planning Office for Urban Affairs, Inc, for a
sixteen unit townhouse style complex at 56-60 Worthen Road was discussed,
Mrs, Samoylenko said that she feels the end unit on Worthen Road should not
be painted white as too prominent a location and that white would probably
become dirty very soon in that location, Site plans for this complex were
discussed. Mr, Jaquith said that he is dubious that the trees proposed will
sufficiently screen the building closest to Worthen Road aril specifically
the blank wall areas of that building, It was stated that there will be
plantings in front of the building but not in the parking lot. Then followed
a discussion on the landscaping proposed and it was decided that any Certifi-
cate should include a condition that the planting schedule be as shown on the
planting schedule submitted by the Planning Office. It was also decided that
it should be specified in the Certificate that. all roof installations be
painted to match the roof shingles, A discussion on the door entrances to
the storage areas was held, It was stated that these door entrances were

very important on $uilding A (one nearest Worthen Road) but not so important
on the other two buildings as they would not be as visible, It was decided
to ask that the storage entrance doors be moved into the door recess so that
there would not be two doors side by side, This request would apply to all
storage entrance doors except for the two bedroom units,
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 P,M.
Zt7 !W ~V. ~l~ Gam' .r
orgi~ H.
