• •
HISTORIC DISTRICTS C0Mt+aSSION
A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Tuesday,
September 10, 1974, at q~45 P,M. in Room G15, Town Office Building, Lexing-
ton, Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H,
Williams, Secretary; Donald J. Shaw; and Associate Commissioner Amalia G,
Samoylenko,
Also present were Stephen Diamond and John Truslow of the Planning Of-
fice for Urban Affairs, Inc., and Ms, Dorte Kaufman and Alexander Cvjanovic
of The Architects Collaborative to discuss plans for "Lexington Homes, Plan-
ning Office for Urban Affairs, Archdiocese of Boston", One bound set of
plans aril six loose elevation drawings dated 9/10/74 were shown to the Com-
mission. The site plan for the sixteen units shows green strip closer than
previous drawings to the eight units nearest Worthen Road. Within the green
strip, next to the eight units, are eight parking spaces, At the dead end
of the road near the four units of Building C are eight parking spaces for
the four units of Building C plus the four units of Building B, This affords
better green space. The clerestory windows have been eliminated,
Elevation #1 is a view from the parking lot of the eight unit building,
It shows wooden clapboards, painted white, 4" to the weather, and 6" corner-
boards of wood, The panels under the windows may be used for installation
of outside flush-mounted air-conditioners, where necessary. Elsewhere the
panels will be painted a neutral color complimentary to the glass of the win-
dows, Samples of the color will be submitted to the Commission,
Elevation #II is a view from the wooded area toward the eight units arid.
shows patios with 2'6" fences on either side of the patio, constructed of
white clapboards on two sides,
Building A on Elevation #4 showing the end facing Worthen Road was dis-
cussed. The one window on the first floor is placed next to the patio. On
the second floor the one window is placed near the center but toward the
front, A plywood panel extends above the window to the roof and this will
be painted the same color as the other window panels aril wooden doors.
Elevation C was shown,
In Building A, Elevation #1, there is one air-conditioning unit, It

was stated that the air-conditioners will not be very noticeable in the other
units,
For landscape lighting there will be six single poles with lexan globes,
Mr, Shaw questioned whether six lights. are adequate for the size of the pro-
ject and it was stated that additional lights will be considered, There will
be recessed lighting in the soffits above the doors,
It was stated that dumpster trash storage is not contemplated.
It was stated that the windows will have narrow metal frames with wood
trim, The window trim replaces the corner boards at the corner windows,
