• <br /> HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMt~85I0N <br /> A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, <br /> July 17, 1974, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexing- <br /> ton, Present were Commissioners Wilbur M, Jaquith, Chairman= Georgia H, <br /> Williams, Secretary= Donald J, Shawl S, Lawrence Whipplei and Associate Com- <br /> missioner Amalia G. Samoylenko. Mrs, Samoylenko was appointed to serve for <br /> Commissioner Thomas J. Hol2bog who was unable to be present, <br /> A hearing was held at 8s00 P,M. on the application of Jeffrey Bromberg <br /> for a Certificate with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the <br /> store at 1841 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green Distri.et. <br /> Mr. Jaquith read the legal notice and application. Mr. Jaquith stated that <br /> the Board of Appeals had granted a permit for use as a restaurant sub3eat to <br /> sign approval by the Historic Districts Commission. Mr. Carl Severo submitted <br /> three scale drawings of the proposed sign, The hearing was closed at 8s05 P,M, <br /> A hearing was held at 8sOg P,M, on the application of Peking Gardens for <br /> a Certificate with respect to exterior architectural changes in the building <br /> at 27 Waltham Street, which is within the Battle Green District, Mr, Jaquith <br /> read the legal notice and application, Atty, Dean Nicholson represented the <br /> applicant and submitted three scale drawings showing location and design of <br /> the windows to be installed and photographs of that elevation of the building, <br /> He said that the purpose was to provide cross ventilation to the kitchen. The <br /> two 4 window units would match the existing window. Louis Spencer of 55 Wal- <br /> tham Street said that he had no objection to the installation of the windows. <br /> The hearing was closed at 8s20 P.M. <br /> An informal discussion was held with Atty. Nicholson regarding the ap- <br /> plication of Carlton House Trust for the erection of fencing and it was de- <br /> termined that the scheduled hearing should be held, <br /> A hearing was held at 8s40 P.M. on the application of Baskin-Robbins, <br /> Inc. fora Certificate with respect to changes in the exterior architectural <br /> features of and the erection and display of a sign on the building at 1729 <br /> Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr, Jaquith <br /> read the legal notice and application. Richard E. Fasano, Store Planning <br /> Manager, submitted three scale drawings showing the proposed store front and <br /> sign aril also photographs of the existing building. Also present were Alan <br /> Seligman and Solomon H. Rubin, owners of the building. Three different store <br /> front possibilities were shown on the drawing, Mr, Whippl® asked how far out <br /> the hood would project and Mr, Fasano said 8", Mr, Whipple asked if the <br /> awning pro~eation would be the same and Mr, Fasano said that it would be, <br /> Mr, Shaw asked about the pro3ection variance with Mario's and Mr, Jaquith <br /> said 5 1/2" Following considerable discussion, it was decided that the second <br /> design was preferred by the mafority of the members and also by the applicant, <br /> <br /> It was agreed that the windows and doors would be of wood and would have solid <br /> permanent wood muntins, Mr, Jaquith asked about air conditioning and Mr, <br /> Fasano said that the air conditioner would be inside the building but that <br /> there would be a condestser on the roof which would not be visible from the <br /> <br />
