HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br /> A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, <br /> June 26, 1974, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexing- <br /> ton. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H, <br /> Williams, Secretary; Donald J. Shaw; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Com- <br /> missioner Amelia G. Samoylenko. Mrs. Samoylenko was appointed to serve for <br /> Commissioner Thomas J. Holsbog who was unable to be present. <br /> An informal meeting was held at 800 P,M. with Richard Fasano, Store <br /> Planning Manager of Baskin-Robbins, Inc., with respect to proposed new store <br /> front and sign for the store at 1729 Massachvaetts Avenue, which is within <br /> the Battle Green District, Mr. Fasano submitted drawing sharti.ng proposed <br /> store front arm sign. He stated that they plan to install white siding at <br /> the bottom of the store front and also behind the sign, He said that the <br /> letters of the sign would be plastic type rounded letters. Mr. Whipple said <br /> that they should accent either the wood, brick, or limestone currently on <br /> the store front, Mrs. Samoylenko suggested installation of brick below the <br /> windows and Mr. Fasano said that they did not want to install brick but that <br /> they could use wood alapboa.rds. He stated that the door would be recessed. <br /> Following considerable discussion, it was decided that the proposed plans <br /> would show wood panels below the windows and that the two store windows would <br /> be wood windows with solid permanent muntins rather than large commercial <br /> glass store windows. It was also decided that the door would have permanent <br /> <br /> wood muntins. <br /> Mr. Jaquith stated that he had received an extension to September 6, <br /> 1974 from the Planning Office of Urban Affairs on their proposed 16 unit <br /> townhouse type development at g5 Worthen Road, <br /> Mrs. Williams mentioned that the Soottish Rite had erected 14 or more <br /> shielded lights around the front of their building and said that these are <br /> very unattractive. <br /> It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to approve payment of the <br /> June 1974 bill to be submitted by Barbara Gilson, Clerk. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 P.M. y~ ` <br /> lGeo ~.a H Wil isms <br /> rg 1 <br /> Secretary <br /> <br />
