HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF A MEETING HELD ON OCTOffi2 28, 1970 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Wednesday, October <br /> 28, 1970, in the Bird Room of Cary Memorial Building, Lexington. Present <br /> were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Philip B. Parsons, Secretary; <br /> George E. Graves; Max H. Straw; and Associate Commissioner George W. Eatery. <br /> Mr. Emsry was appointed to serve for Georgia H. Williams who was unable to <br /> be present. <br /> A hearing was held at 7x30 P.M. on the application of Gray G. and LaRue <br /> Howell Henry fora Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the in- <br /> stallation of a driveway for the dwelling at li Hancock Street, which is <br /> within the Hancock-Clarke District. Mr. Jaquith read the legal notice and <br /> the letter requesting the hearing. Present for the petitioner was LaRue H. <br /> Henry who submitted three scale drawings of a plot plan showing location of <br /> the dwelling on the property and the proposed location of the driveway. Fol~ <br /> lowing discussion, the hearing was adjourned at 8115 P.M. until November 4. <br /> A hearing was held at 8:17 P.M. on the application of R.H.D. Realty & <br /> Development Company, d/b/a Battle Green Inn and Lexington`s Drummer Boy Res» <br /> taurant with respect to the erection and display of ~ awning with signs for <br /> the Restaurant at 1720-1722 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle <br /> Green District. Mr. Jaquith read the legal notice and letter requesting the <br /> hearing. Present for the petitioner were Michael E. Neustadt, General Man- <br /> agar, and Bradford W. Bigham of Bigham & Sons, Inc., Awnings, who submitted <br /> drawings of the proposed awning and the front of the building showing pro- <br /> posed location of the awning, menu shaiti.ng proposed logo, postcard showing <br /> the building, and color sample of the awning to be installed. Following disc <br /> cession, the hearing was adjourned at 9e30 P.M. <br /> An adjourned hearing was held at 9130 P.M. on the application of Parkway <br /> Distributors Inc. d/b/a Big L Discount Stores with respect to the erection <br /> and display of a sign for the store. front at 1$~'O Massachusetts Avenue, which <br /> is within the Battle Green District. Martin Ca of Mandeville Signs was <br /> present far the petitioner and submitted three scale drawings of the. proposed <br /> sign. Following discussion, the hearing was adjourned at 1Ot00 P.M. <br /> Mr. Jaquith read the Board of Appeals Denial on the application of Colo- <br /> nial Pharmacy for the sign for the store at 1754 Massachusetts Avenue, for <br /> which the Commission had held a hearing on July 1,5, 1970. It was moved, <br /> seconded, and unanimously VOTED to deny the application of Colonial Pharmacy. <br /> Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Philip <br /> B. Parsons, George E. Graves, Max H. Straw, and Associate Commissioner George <br /> <br /> W. Eatery. <br /> <br />
