<br /> ~ , • <br /> HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br /> MINIITES OF A MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 14, 1970 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Wednesday, October <br /> 14, 1970, in the rear of Cary Memorial Hall, Cary Memorial Building, Lexing- <br /> ton. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Philip B. <br /> Parsons, Secretary; George E. Graves; Max H. Straw; grad Associate Commission- <br /> ers George W. Emery and Franklin C. Hudson. <br /> A hearing was held at 7a90 P.M. on the application of Joseph Trani In- <br /> corporated with respect to architectural changes for the building at 1775- <br /> 1775A Massachusetts Avenue and the erection and display of signs on said <br /> building, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr. Emery was appointed <br /> to serve for Georgia H. Williams who was unable to be present. Mr. Jaquith <br /> read the legal notice and letter requesting this hearing. Joseph A. Trani, <br /> Jr., President, was present for the petitioner and submitted three scale <br /> drawings of the proposed changes and photographs of the store front as it is <br /> presently. The hearing was adjourned at 8a15 P.M. <br /> A hearin was held at 8:20 P.M. on the application of Parkway Distribu- <br /> tors Inc. d/b%a/ Big "L" Discount Stores with respect to the erection and <br /> display of a sign for the store front at 1784- Massachusetts Avenue, which is <br /> within the Battle Green District. Mr. Hudson was appointed to serve for M'rs. <br /> Williams who was unable to be present. Martin Calvert of MandeviU.e Signs <br /> was present for the petitioner and submitted three scale drawings of the pro- <br /> posed sign, photograph of the store front, and color samples for the proposed <br /> sign. This hearing was adjourned at 9a~10 P.M. until 9a00 P.M. on Wednesday, <br /> October 28. 1970. <br /> An adjourned hearing was held at Sa45 P.M. on the application of Joseph <br /> A. Busa d/b/a/ Busa's Lexington Flower Shop, with respect to the erection and <br /> display of a sign for the store at 1851 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within <br /> the Battle Green District. Present for the petitioner were Joseph A. Busa <br /> and Wayne Busa who submitted three drawings of the proposed sign. This hear- <br /> ing was adjourned at 8x50 P.M. <br /> Mr. Jaquith read a letter from Donald E. Nickerson, Chairman of the <br /> Board of Appeals, with respect to the sign for Colonial Pharmacy. Mr. Jaquith <br /> stated that the Lexington Savings Bank had applied fora Certificate with <br /> respect to exterior architectural changes and the erection and display of a <br /> sign for the Bank at 1776 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle <br /> Green District, and that the hearing had been scheduled for November 4th. <br /> Mr. Jaquith stated that an application had been received from June C. Augusta <br /> for a Certificate for fencing and a sign at 917 Massachusetts Avenue, which <br /> is within the East Village District, and that tha hearing had been scheduled <br /> for November 4, 1970. <br /> <br />
