<br /> y • <br /> HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br /> MIN[J2E.S OF A MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 1, 1970 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Thursday, October 1, <br /> 1970, in the Rear of Cary Memorial Hall, Cary Memorial Building, Lexington. <br /> Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; George E. Graves; Max <br /> H. Straw; Georgia H. Williams; and Associate Commissioner Franklin C. Hudson. <br /> Mr. Hudson was appointed to serve for Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, who was <br /> unable to be present. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED that <br /> Mrs. Williams serve as Secretary Pro Tem. <br /> A hearing was held at 7t45 P.M. on the application of Joseph A. Buse, <br /> Lexington Flower Shop~for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to <br /> the erection and display of a sign for the store at 1851 Massachusetts Avenue, <br /> which is within the Battle Green District. Mr. Jaquith read the legal notice <br /> and letter requesting this hearing. Joseph A. Buss and Wayne Buse represented <br /> the applicant and submitted photographs of the proposed sign. The hearing was <br /> adjourned at $e00 P.M. until 9e00 P.M. on October 14, 1970. <br /> Mr. Jaquith stated that extensions had been received as followst <br /> Bartolotti to October 31; Theatre Pharmacy to October 15t and Colonial Phar- <br /> macy tc October 15 and that a Board of Appeals hearing on the Colonial Phar- <br /> macy sign was scheduled for October 20, 1970. It was stated that Harvard <br /> Trust Company would submit a scale drawing for the logo for their building at <br /> 1761-1765 Massachusetts Avenue at the October 14th meeting. <br /> Mr. Jaquith stated that a letter had been sent to the owner of record of <br /> the property at 917 Massachusetts Avenue regardi»g the illegal fencing and <br /> sign and that, if an application has not been received by October 14th, this <br /> matter will be turned over to the appropriate town officials for action. Mr. <br /> Jaquith then read a letter from Dean Nicholson re the staircase at 19 Muzzey ' <br /> Street and a letter from Ann E. Weiss of New York City with respect to the <br /> advertisement of the Shell Oil Company station at the corner of Maple Street <br /> and Massachusetts Avenu®. It was moved, seconded, and Y07~D that the Chairman <br /> reply to this letter. <br /> A hearing was held at 8x15 P.M. on the application of Modern Gourmet, Inc. <br /> with respect to the erection and display of two signs on the building at 27 <br /> Waltham Street, which is within the mottle Green District. Mr. Jaquith read <br /> the legal notice and letter requesting this hearing. Mrs. Patricia Hagedorn <br /> represented the applicant and submitted three scale drawings of each of the <br /> proposed signs, photographs of the front and rear of the building where the <br /> signs are to be erected, and color samples of the proposed signs. The hearing <br /> was adjourned at 9:15 P.M. <br /> Michael E. Newstadt, General Manager of the Battle Green Inn, met in- <br /> formally with the Commission to discuss the possible erection of an awning <br /> with signs over the front entrance of Lexington's Drummer Boy Restaurant. A <br /> hearing on this was scheduled ..for October 28, 1970. <br /> <br />
