<br /> • ~ - <br /> HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br /> The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Wednesday, <br /> July 9, 1969, at 7:30 P.M., in the Selectmen~s Room, Town Off ice Building, <br /> Lexington. Members present were Cotrnr?issioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chair- <br /> man, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan, George E. Graves and <br /> Max H. Straw and Associate Commissioners George W. Emery and Franklin C. <br /> Hudson. <br /> Hearing wras held at 7:30 P.M. on the application of Martin V. and <br /> Jeanne Fowler Sussman for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect <br /> to changes in the exterior features of the dwelling at 1361 Massachu- <br /> setts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern District, The Chairman <br /> read the notice of hearing and the letter of application.. Mr. and Mrs, <br /> Sussman appeared and presented to the Commission photographs of the ele- <br /> vations of the dwelling involved in the changes with superimposed draw- <br /> ings of the new windows. No other persons. having appeared, the hearing <br /> was closed at 8:00 P.M. After discussion, upon motion duly made and <br /> seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certif icate to the applicant. <br /> Hearing was held at 8:05 P.M. on the application of Village Artisans, <br /> Inc. for a Certificate of Appropriateness. with respect to the erection <br /> and display of signs, a change in exterior architectural features and the <br /> erection of fencing for the store at 25 Depot Square, which is within the <br /> Battle Green District. The Chairman read the notice of hearing and the <br /> letter of application. Mrs. Chelly Baron, President, Mrs. Kimball Keeping, <br /> and Attorney for the firm Robert Kates appeared. Mrs. Baron presented <br /> photographs of the front and rear of the store, scale drawings of the pro- <br /> posed signs and a sketch of the proposed changes in the rear of the store. <br /> No other persons having appeared, the hearing was closed at 8:55 P.M. <br /> After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously <br /> VOTED to issue two Certif icates to the applicant. The first permitted the <br /> erection and display of two signs for the store and the second permitted <br /> changes in the exterior architectural features of the rear elevation of the <br /> building and the erection of fencing in the rear of the store. <br /> Hearing was held at 9s00 P.M. on the application of Ellwood C. Bar- <br /> rett d~b~a Barrett Press for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect <br /> to changes in the exterior architectural features of the building at 5 Wal- <br /> lis Court, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr. Barrett, a <br /> Mrs. Mary Kelly and C. Bix Shoemaker appeared and the applicant and Mr. <br /> Shoemaker presented a brochure picturing the type of aluminum blinds to be <br /> installed. No other persons having appeared the he aring was closed at <br /> 9:30 P.M. After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded, it was <br /> unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate to the applicant. <br /> The Chairman presented a bill from Clerk E. Flynn in the amount of <br /> X76.70. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to process the <br /> bill for payment. <br /> Discussion was held on the erection of a sign, without the issuance <br /> of a Certificate of Appropriateness, on the store at 1711 Massachusetts <br /> Avenue, The Chairman will send a letter to the occupant of the store to <br /> advise him that the sign is in violation of the Historic Districts Act. <br /> <br />
