HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMA~ISSION <br /> MINUTES OF AdEETING HELD ON MAY 7, 19b9 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Wednesday, <br /> May 7, 1969, at 7':45 P.M'., in the Selectmen~s Room, Town Office <br /> Building, Lexington. Members present were Commissioners Wilbur M. <br /> Jaquith, Ghairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan. and <br /> George E. Graves and Associate Commissioners George W. Emery and <br /> Franklin C. Hudson. <br /> Informal meeting was held at 7:45 P.M. with Peter Thomas, Archi- <br /> tect with respect to property he has purchased at 19 Muzzey Street. <br /> Mr. Thomas presented to the Commission photographs of the existing <br /> dwelling, scale drawings of the proposed new building (after demoli- <br /> tion of the existing) and an exterior drawing of the new building. <br /> Discussion was held as to the present and future concept of the area, <br /> the architecture of the proposed new building and its conformity and <br /> compatibility with the neighborhood. Mr. Thomas will forward to the. <br /> Chairman a Title Report on the property and a history of the present <br /> dwelling. The Clerk will notify Mr. Thomas of a date to bring in to <br /> the Commission a scale model of the new building. The informal <br /> meeting was closed at 9:20 P.M. <br /> Harold E. Stevens, Attorney for Shell Oil Company appeared at <br /> this time with respect to the installation of air pumps and a refuse. <br /> disposal container for the Shell Oil service station at 1095 Massa- <br /> chuaetts Avenue. A letter of application for a hearing for a Certi- <br /> ficate will be forwarded at a later date. In response to a question <br /> from Commissioner Bevan with respect to ice machines and."coke" <br /> machines at service stations the Board of Appeals report on this <br /> station does not permit them. A copy of the Board of Appeals report <br /> on the Shell service station at the corner of Bedford Street and <br /> <br /> Worthen Road will be obtained for a ruling on these machines. <br /> Adjourned hearing was held at 9:45 1'.M. on the application of <br /> Frederic K. and Mar3orie S. Johnson with respect to the erection and <br /> display of a dealer name sign for the new retail automobile service <br /> station building, ref erred to in Certificate of Apppropriateness <br /> No. b8 C-27, issued by the Commission on August 8, 1968, at 39 Bedford <br /> Street, which is within the Battle Green District. After discussion, <br /> upon motion duly made-and seconded it was VOTED to issue a Certifi- <br /> cate to the applicant. In accordance with an approval condition in <br /> Certificate of Appropriateness No. b8 G-27 the Commission at this <br /> time approved the installation of the electrical lantern fixture be- <br /> tween the lavatory doors of the north elevation of the new retail <br /> automobile service station building at 39 Bedford Street, said fix- <br /> ture being #5251 on page 6 of lighting fixture brochure entitled <br /> 't Atoler Lighting". Letter will b® sent to Atty. Fred J. Conroy, <br /> Agent for the applicants, notifying him of Commission approval. <br /> After discussion on paint samples submitted by the applicants, <br /> upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue a Certi- <br /> <br />
