HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMP,4ISSION <br /> MINUTES OF A'IEETIPdG .HELD ON APRIL 16, 1969 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on i~ednesday, <br /> April 16, 1969, at 7:30 P.M., in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office <br /> Building, Lexington. Members present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Ja- <br /> quith, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan, George E. <br /> Graves and Max H. Straw and Associate Commissioner.~Franklin C. Hudson, and <br /> Creorge W. Emery. <br /> Hearing was held at 7:30 R.M. on the application. of Village Artisans, <br /> Inc. for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection <br /> and display of a free standing sign on the premises at 1632 Massachu- <br /> setts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. The Chairman <br /> read the notice of hearing and the letter of application. Mrs. Chelly <br /> Baron, President of Village Artisans, Inc.. Mrs. Russell tNolfe and P~Irs. <br /> Kimball Keeping appeared and presented to the Commission drawings of the <br /> proposed sign, photographs of the t~uilding and an existing signboard. <br /> Discussion was held with respect to the position of the sign on the pre- <br /> mises, the method of supporting the sign and its design. The Chairman <br /> requested that the applicants forward to him a set of scale drawings of <br /> the proposed sign. The hearing was adjourned at 8:50 P.M. Further dis- <br /> cussion was held by Commission members on the design of the sign and its <br /> supports and an outline of changes and recommendations will be mailed <br /> to Mrs. Baron. <br /> Adjourned hearing was held at 9:00 P.M. on the application of Han- <br /> lon's Shoes for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the <br /> maintenance and display of signs on the existing awning at the front <br /> elevation of the store at 1725 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the <br /> Battle Green District. After discussion, upon motion duly made and <br /> <br /> ,seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate. to the appli- <br /> cant subject to the conditions provided in said Certificate. The ad- <br /> journed hearing was adjourned at 9:30 P•. M. The portion of the applica- <br /> tion requesting a Certificate with respect to the maintenance and display <br /> of two signs on the rear of said premises will be acted upon at the <br /> meeting to be held on April 30, 1969. <br /> Adjourned hearing was held at 9:45 P.PuI. on the application of the <br /> Trustees of Cary R~iemorial Library with respect to the erection and dis- <br /> play of signs for the parking areas on the property at 1871} Massachusetts <br /> Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. After discussion, <br /> upon. motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a <br /> Certificate to the applicants. The adjourned hearing was closed at <br /> 10:30 P.M. <br /> The next meeting night is scheduled for uYednesday, April 30, 1969, <br /> at 7:30 P.M., in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building to consider <br /> the application of the Trustees of the 'Hillard Adams Trust and the <br /> pending applications of Hanlon's Shoes and the Village Artisans, Inc. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 P.M. <br /> ' l? <br /> Philip B. <br /> Se <br /> • <br /> <br />
