• <br /> <br /> 1 <br /> HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF PJIEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 13, 1968 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on 'Ncdnesday, <br /> November 13, 1968a at 7:30 P.M., in the Conference Room, Cary Memorial <br /> Hall, to which place the meeting Was adjourned from the Selectmen's <br /> Room, Town Office Building. Members present were Commissioners Wilbur <br /> M. Jaquith, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan and <br /> Max H. Straw and Associate Commissioner George N1. Emery. <br /> A delayed hearing was held at 8:25 P.M. on the application of 'Wen- <br /> dell H. Burgess for a Certificate of ,Appropriateness with respect to <br /> changes in the .architectural features of the building ~a 2-4 Wallis <br /> Court, which is within the Battle Green District. The Chairman read <br /> the Notice of hearing and the letter of application. Mr. Burgess ap- <br /> peared and presented photographs of the building and a prospectus <br /> showing the style and type of combination storm windows and screens to <br /> be installed. No other persons having appeared, the hearing was closed <br /> at 8:40 P.M. After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded, it <br /> was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate to the applicant. <br /> A hearing was held at 8:00 P.T~I. on the application of Hancock <br /> Congregational Church for a Certificate of Appropriateness to maintain <br /> four ventilators on the roof of the building located at 1912 Massachu- <br /> setts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. The Chairman <br /> read the Notice of hearing and the letter of application. Mr. 1Yilliam <br /> G. Hodges, Chairman of the Church Prudential Committee and Mr. Richard <br /> Soule, the Contractor, appeared and presented scale drawings of the <br /> front and side elevations of the building and photographs showing the <br /> locations of the ventilators on said building. No otizer persons having <br /> appeared, the hearing was closed at 8:~,~-P.M. Action on the applica- <br /> tion was deferred until the next meeting night. <br /> An adjourned hearing was held at 8:45 P.M. on Shell Oil Company's <br /> application with respect to the erection of a standing sign for the <br /> new retail automobile service station building at 3095 Massachusetts <br /> Avenue, which is within the East V111age District. Harold E. Stevens, <br /> ,Attorney, P~4r. Edward Gallagher, District Engineer for Shell uzd dir. <br /> Willard Wixes, Real Estate Representative for Shell appeared and pre- <br /> scnted a scale drawing of the proposed sign. Also discussed was a <br /> grading problem which had arisen dur~,ng construction on the location of <br /> a proposed air pump. The Chairman advised the applicant that a formal <br /> advertised hearing was necessary for the installation of the air pump. <br /> An application for hearing will be sent to the Commission. The adjourned <br /> hearing was adjourned at 9:35 P.M. Action on the sign was deferred until <br /> the next meeting night. <br /> An adjourned hearing was held at 9:40 P.M. on the application of <br /> Hanlon's Shoes with respect to the erection and display of a sign for <br /> <br />
