• <br /> MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON JULY 10, 1968 <br /> The Essington Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Wed- <br /> nesday, July 10, 1968, in the Selectmen~s Room, Town Office Building. <br /> Members present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman, Philip B. <br /> Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan, George E. Graves and Max H, Straw. <br /> Nearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the application of Ellen H, G. Bryant <br /> for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection of a <br /> fence on the premises at 1948 Massaehuset a Avenue, which is within the <br /> Battle Green District. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant appeared and presented a bro- <br /> chure picturing the chain-link fencing and photographs of the premises. <br /> Changes had been made in the type of fencing and it$ location and the Chair- <br /> man advised the applicant that the Commission members would view the pro- <br /> perty and he requested that she return with Plot Plans to the meeting to be <br /> held on July 31, 1968. Hearing was adjourned at 8:05 P.M. <br /> At 8:10 P.M. Frederick J. Conroy, Esq. appeared for an informal meeting <br /> on the application of Frederic K. and Marjorie S. Johnson with respect to a <br /> Permit for Demolition or Removal of the front portion of the existing retail <br /> automobile service station building and related retail autornobil® service <br /> station facilities on the premises at 39 Bedford Street., their application <br /> for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the erection of a new retail auto- <br /> mobile service station building and related automobile service station <br /> facilities on said premises and their application for a Certificate of Ap- <br /> propriateness for the erection and display of signs including a free stand- <br /> ing sign for said building on said premises, which is within the Battle <br /> Green District. A formal hearing is scheduled for July 31, 1968. Discus- <br /> sion was held on plans with the applicant Mr. Johnson, Mr. C. Crowley, <br /> District Manager for the Gulf Oil Company, Mr. R. Kuchsarn, Construction <br /> Engineer for Gulf and Pdr. Donald Summers, Sales Representative for Gulf. <br /> The informal meeting was adjourned at 9:45 P.M. <br /> Adjourned hearing was held at 9:50 P.M. with applicant Robert 0. Til- <br /> linghast. This particular building at 475 Massachusetts Avenue was general- <br /> ly mentioned in the overall proposal at the initial hearing held on Marsh 21, <br /> 1968. Mr. Tillinghast presented scale drawin s of the proposed restoration <br /> and alteration of the existing dwelling at 47~ Massachusetts Avenue, which <br /> is within the East Village District. After discussion, upon motion duly <br /> made and seconded it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate oP Approp- <br /> riateness to the applicant for the restoration and alteration of the dwell- <br /> ing as noted above. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was also unani- <br /> mously VOTED at this time to issue a Permit for Demoltion or Removal to the i <br /> applicant with respect to the demoli'~ion or removal of the one story ell <br /> attached to the easterly elevation a#' the dwelling at 475 Massachusetts <br /> Avenue. No other persona having appeared the adjourned hearing u¢as adjourned <br /> at 10;45 P.M. <br /> The Chairman advised the Commission that a hearing was scheduled for <br /> August 7, 1968 to consider the application of Ye Olde Bargain Barn for a <br /> Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection and display of <br /> two signs. <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unu~.imously VOTED that as <br /> of June 1, 1968 the hourly salar~r of the Clerk would be advanced from X2.00 <br /> <br /> _ to X2.50 an hour.
