• <br /> MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING HELD ON JUNE 26, 1968 <br /> The Lexington Historic Districts Commission held an adjourned <br /> meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 1968, in the Selectmen~s Room, Town <br /> Office Building. Members present were Commissioners Nilbur M. Jaquith, <br /> Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan, George E. Graves <br /> and R.4ax Ii. Straw. <br /> Adjourned hearing was held at 7:L}S P.M. to act on the applications <br /> of Shell Oil Company. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was un- <br /> animously VOTED to issue a Permit for Demolition or Removal to Shall Oil <br /> Company for the demolition or removal of its existing retail automobile <br /> service station building and related facilities, including gas pumps, <br /> lighting facilities and paving, the fences along its northwesterly and <br /> northeasterly boundary lines and the fence and concrete wall between the <br /> existing pump isl:nds and the street on the premises at 1095 Massachusetts <br /> Avenue, which is within the East Village District. <br /> After discussion and study of a draft drawn up by the Chairman,. upon <br /> motion duly made and seconded, it was unsuzimously VOTED to issue a Certi- <br /> ficate of Appropriateness to Shell Oil Company with respect to the erec- <br /> tion of a new retail automobile service station building and related <br /> facilities and fences on the aforementioned premises. <br /> After further discussion on the application of 5he11 Oil Company for <br /> a certificate of Appropriatenessw ith respect to the erection and display <br /> of two signs for the new retail automobile service station building re- <br /> ferred to above, the Commission upon motion duly made and seconded, VOTED <br /> unanimously to issue a Certificate to the applicant. The Chairman advised <br /> the Commission members that with respect to a standing sign for the service <br /> station, a letter had been received extending the time for action by the <br /> Commission to October 15, 196$. <br /> Adjourned hearing wa.s held at 10:00 P.M. on the application of <br /> Robert <br /> 0. Tillinghast with respect to the restoration and alteration of the <br /> existing dwelling at 465 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East <br /> Village District. Mr. Tillinghast appeared and presented to the Commis- <br /> <br /> , sign paint color samples, a brochure picturing combination aluminum storm <br /> and screen windows and samples of brick far the chimney. Upon motion duly <br /> made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTID to issue a Certificate of <br /> Appropriateness to the applicant with respect to restoration and altera- <br /> tion of the existing dwelling as noted above. Mr. Tillinghast presented <br /> confirmatory plans to the Commission as were previously requested. The <br /> adjourned hearing was adjourned at 11:00 P.&i. <br /> <br /> i The Chairman reed to the Commission a copy of a latter sent by <br /> Robert Lyon, Manager of Colonial Restorations, .Inc., to the owner of Pepe's, <br /> a pizza shop, located at the corner of Independence Avenue and Massachu- <br /> setts Avenue. Mr. Lyon advised the owner that his inside sign advetise- <br /> ments could be improved and that any outside signs would be within the <br /> requirements of the Historic Districts Act. <br /> The next meeting night is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, 196$, <br /> to consider the application of Ellen H.
