~ Apr 5, 1967 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified <br /> in the public notice of hearing ors the application for a Certificate of Ap-~ <br /> propriateness by Harold L. Brehm, D.D.S. with respect to the erection of a <br /> fence and post lights, and erection and display of a sign on the premises <br /> at 16l}I~ Massachusetts Avenue and 1 UVallis Court, which is within the <br /> <br /> Battle Green District. <br /> The Chairman read the notice of hearing. Dr. and Mrs. Brehm appeared <br /> in their oinm behalf and presented scale drawings of the fence and post <br /> LiPhts and a sign drawing by Roger A. Petrie. <br /> After consideration of the drawings it was requested that Dr. Brehm <br /> return at a later date with scale drawings showing changes suggested by the <br /> r,ommission with respect to the blacernent of the fence and planters, the <br /> style of the posts and lights, and the exact scale and legend of the sign. <br /> 'To abuttors having appeared, the hearing was adjourned at 8:25 P,M. <br /> M?mbers present were N~ilbur M. Jaquith, Max H. Straw, Ruth. G. Bevan, <br /> George F. Graves, Philip B. Parsons and Associate Commissioner George VJ. <br /> <br /> Emery, <br /> Hearing was held at 8:26 P.M. ct~ the application of Robert 0. <br /> Tillinghast with. respect to the erection of a two family dwelling on the <br /> premises at 859 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village <br /> <br /> District. <br /> The Chairman read the notice of hearing.. P~4r. Tillinghast presented <br /> scale drawings by George D. Reynolds, Jr., Architect, Arlington, r,7assa- <br /> chusetts. P,?r. Birchall, Builder, was also present. <br /> After discussion as to changes with respect to the design and positicn <br /> of the exterior front door, and, a canopy and possible changes in the porch <br /> and stair rgilings at the exterior rear door, it was requested that P~2r. <br /> Tillinghast return at a later date with scale drawings showing the pro- <br /> posed revisions. <br /> Abuttors P~7rs. Edmund F. Hoxie, 88!}-886 Massachusetts Avenue, and <br /> "ors. Clifton B. Daniels, 881-883 Massachusetts Avenue appeared at t'ne <br /> hearing. P~4rs. Hoxie questionned facilities for parking and said that she <br /> felt that a hip-roof would. be non-cons"orminr~ with other homes in the area. <br /> Mr. Jacquith explained that a slopir_g roof would face Pt(assachusetts Avenue. <br /> r,4r. ~.'Vilbur ~~I, Jaquith, Chairman retired from the meeting, and. motion <br /> was made and seconded that P:~~ax. H. Straw be Chairman Pro Tempore for the <br /> consideration of the issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness to Athens <br /> Realty Trust with respect to t}ze erection of proposed new structures at <br /> 32-38 Bedford Street and with respect to the erection and display of <br /> additional. signs for said premises, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Mr. Straw presented the details and wording of the proposed Certificate. <br /> After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously <br /> VOTED to issue a Certificate to Athens Realty Trust. <br /> Participating in this decision were Max H. Straw, Chairman Pro Tempore, <br /> Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Commissioners Ruth G.
